I walked away this week but hopefully it will still be there when I go back. Just wasn't ready to spend this much this week.
It is a 2" Nickel 10-5. Really beautiful except it was wearing these big honkin', finger grooved, rubber grips. Kinda like a prom queen wearing a potato sack? I didn't have them take the grips off yet but the tag had a D5XXXXX serial number so it must be early 70's.
Going to push to get the taxes done and some money headed this way this week. If the 'Finance Director' gives the okay then I'll go back and have them take the grips off to make sure everything is okay underneath. If it's clean I'll try to get them to knock some off of the 475 they are asking since I'll be having to buy some wood grips to put back on her.

I am sure that you would enjoy owning/shooting it! I have had my 10-5 (1974) close to 2 years. NO safe queen. Paid $329 shipped. Had to add new stocks. Forgot what it came with. Bob

A nickeled 10-5 2" is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. When I came across this one in December of 2007, unfired in the original box with all the goodies, I couldn't resist. Serial number 3D175xx. According to Roy, shipped in December, 1977. It was then 30 years old, looking like it just got off the truck from S&W.

Wow, that's gorgeous, PALADIN85020.

I'm not sure about the nickel ones, but you have to keep an eye on the blue ones. They multiply. First came this '67, then before I knew it this '77 snuck into the cabin. Darnedest thing.

...... except it was wearing these big honkin', finger grooved, rubber grips. Kinda like a prom queen wearing a potato sack? ...

That's one of the best descriptions I've ever heard for beat up rubber grips on a beautiful S&W! I'll have to remember that one. Good luck.

I finally went back last week and it was still there. Turns out it's been refinished and has a 974 stamped on the grip frame. So soon after the original ship date and with no N on the cylinder is it safe to assume that it was originally blue and sent it back for nickel? It does have some rust/pitting on the grip frame but will be covered anyway when I get it cleaned up. Other than that it has a few specks under and around the thumb latch and one on the right side of the yoke that I'm working on polishing out. As soon as I take care of that and my grips come in it'll be good to go.
As for the Hogue Monogrip, there's nothing really wrong with it except for me just not liking it. Seems to be in perfect shape.

My 10-7 SB snub was my issued weapon before we switched to the stainless revolvers. I was able to purchase it from the city for $135 and it's going to the range today. It's set up w/the factory magnas & a grip adapter, just like it was carried on my hip in uniform.

I also acquired a nickel 10-5 with no N stamps. Furthermore it had an old box with a new looking label marked N. Despite the "irregularities" I love the gun.

S&W M10-7 Nickel and M15-4

As a novice collector of nickel plated revolvers I thought that the cylinder was the most common place to find the authentic "N" stamp. I now realize after purchasing this M10-7 that the "N" can also be found in any number of places such as the under side of the top strap and on the grip frame so now I question a seller when buying online to expose the "N" to confirm that the firearm is indeed original nickel. Here is my new , not actually sought after, M10-7 accompanied by my favorite "K" frame snub nose M15-4.

My Jaruwan grips finally got here today, almost 7 weeks. I have to say I'm disappointed with the fit. They are snug and I had a bit of a time getting them back off but the shape isn't quite right. The curve of the rear of the grips doesn't match the curve of the back-strap so the back-strap sticks out and you can see a bit of the sides of the back-strap. The front of the grips do the same at the top of the grip frame.

I have two sets of original round butt k frame magnas from 1970- 1980 and neither one correctlly fit my newly acquired 10-5 2". Yours appear to be aftermarket and or new production.

I'm fully aware that they are aftermarket - ebay from Thailand. It's just that from the seller's feedback I was expecting a better fit.

Sorry, I can't advised as to the fit from an aftermarket or new production stock. I can confirm that I am having a hard time finding an acceptable fit from earlier production factory stocks. I think at the time of the 10-5 they were fit exactly to each revolver.

If you look close you can see the frame protruding around the stock. This was the best fit out of 4 round butt K frame stocks.
