Today I went to pick up my son from his job early and had some time to kill so I stopped in a small pawnshop not far from where he works. I have been looking for a nice Model 60.

Looked into the handgun case and there it was..... not a Model 60 but a 3" Model 65 with Uncle Mikes grips.

Now I already have a 3" 65-5 with Uncle Mikes grips that is my primary conceal carry and mountain carry gun. Must...... resist...... urge to..... "Can I look at the Model 65?

Hmmmm - Pinned and Recessed - 65-2.

Tight lockup. No end shake. No flame cutting. Forcing cone good. Finish polished a little but very good overall with no scratches. Some of the beadblasting gone from the top of the gun. "Can I dry fire it?"

"Sure" he says. Exceptionally smooth and light trigger. Agggh. Ive spent allot of money last month and dont have much to get thru this month. I already have a 3" 65...... Then I lift the price tag........ $375!

The pawnbroker says "10 percent down - about $40 and 5 months to pay" The debit card comes out and the gun goes to the back of the shop. :)

You did well! Pawn shops here are nuts....saw a well used 4" Colt Diamondback .38 special and they were asking $1,200.00.

Thanks. Bolth of the 65's were purchased in pawnshops here. The 65-5 was more at $450 but in the same shop was a worse condition 6" 66-2 for $650. The shop I was in today is a small shop that tries to turn items fast with relatively low markup.

I would still have expected that gun to sell for over $400. I guess with the current panic, most are still looking for semi auto's.

Good score. Well worth eating beans for a while, or letting your kids run around with the toes of their shoes cut off instead of buying them new bigger ones (that works better in summertime).

Been there and done that. I know the feeling very well. Sometimes I have the urge to go to the pawn shop to just look and that is when I have made most of my purchases.

Bravo!! Great find and I hate you very much. Green eyed monster and all that. I would love to find one to go with my 13-3 3 inch. And I will some day. No thanks to you. Enjoy, I love my finds and have had some luck as well.

Great deal! We here on the Forum are enablers, so good decision to buy. :)

Now, where are the pictures?

The gun is on a 150 day lay away (Yes this shop gives 5 months to pay) It should be out of pawn jail and into the gunsafe within 2 months though.

I promise to resurect this thread and post pix as soon as its home. :D

It took you that long to look at the check the price???

Actually yes. The price tag was facing down when I picked it up and as I already have a 3" 65, I just started evaluating the gun.

Was not planning on buying it until I saw the price. Even then hesitated until the terms were so good I would have been stupid to let it go. My older son is very happy and cannot wait to carry it in the mountains.

If I luck upon another do you want me to PM you?

I'm not jealous at all. Just make sure you PM me instead of ben1 if you "luck" upon another one.

In my area, pawnshops are rarely worth stopping at. Any decent guns are usually priced at approximately 2x actual value, operating on the P.T. Barnum sales philosophy.

Better value in the 65 than in your 401K! Likely a better return in the long run if you have to sell it too.

Great find!

Last time I stopped at my LGS/Pawnshop it cost me $1100.

"Necessity Gun" I had an old friend and gun nut who would not go to the gun shows with me most of the time. He was afraid he would find another one of those necessity guns. Lot of guns out there, according to him, but sometime you run up on a "necessity gun" and it just has to go home with you, as it becomes a necessity. I have found a few necessity guns before in pawn shops also along the way. All of them, so far, has added quite a bit of satisfaction to my household. Just another Necessity gun in the house:cool:

Seems the best deals are in rural areas or south/western states. There were alot of classic guns in the small shops of rural Maine when I was an Army Recruiter there from 1998-2001.

Also near Military bases for some reason. We used to call Fayetteville, NC outside of FT Bragg 'FayetteNam'. Lots of good used guns to be had there during my Paratrooper days. :)

The 65-5 was purchased in a pawnshop in CO Springs outside of FT Carson.

Jeep- did they have any other S&W's there, Help a Colorado brother out :)

Jim, the 65-2 was at Cash America Pawn, Denver #1. 1565 Wadsworth Blvd. Lakewood, CO 80214.

When I placed the gun on layaway last weekend, there was a 629 .44 Mag next to it. I was not interested because it was a lock gun. Priced around $600. I will PM you if I find any other great finds. We CO gun owners gotta stick together!
