I have a 5" pc 1911 in layaway. I shoot IDPA already , and from the video on smiths website they say its legal for IDPA and USPCA limited 10. Im a little worried about how correct that statement about IDPA is now. Does anybody know for sure if the litening cuts in the slide are legal? Would love to make this a cdp gun.

8.2.3.2.27. Slides with front cocking serrations, tri-top, engraving, carry melts, and high power cuts (are legal in CDP.)

So the lightning cuts are considered like high power cuts? Cool I guess it would ales be leagle for esp

Does anybody know the annual production#'s on these guns? I doint see anything stoping me from using it in ssp if the #'s are 2000

No single action pistols allowed in IDPA/SSP.
Single action is CDP in .45, ESP in 9mm and .40. ;)

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but the slots cut in your slide are not legal for CDP or ESP Divisions. High-Power cuts refers to the reshaping of the forward portion of the slide to resemble the slide on a Hi-Power, where the first inch or so of slide is thinner than the full width of the slide. Tri-topping refers to the profile of the top of the slide so that it resembles a truncated triangle.

Removal of material from the exterior of the slide is specifically prohibited under rule 8.2.3.3.2. of the new 2013 rules. Sorry - thought I might save you an argument at your next match.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

What the hell was smith thinking when they said it was? Theirs a Video on their website that says its legle for idpa & limited 10 USPCA. I'm not real happy with this sense that was a factor in getting the pc 1911, but the gun is so freaking nice I'm still going to buy it. It's in layaway at one of my LGS's , and it will prolly take me two-three months to pay it off. I'm coming into my slower work season, and this will prolly be the last gun I can purchase before spring. I guess I'll just have to keep shooting my xdm 4.5" in ssp for now.

There are other discussions about this. I don't know if there is a formal ruling. There are occasionally gear "exceptions" that seem to be made for other guns, so maybe IDPA HQ will rule on it.

A lot of things are legal for USPSA Limited 10. The gun you listed may not be the best option.

I had a conversation with IDPA members who noted that the specific gun was not legal for IDPA. However, with the Oct 2013 rules coming, it can be used without being scored (just for fun).

There was reference to a specific ruling on the exact model SW1911PC (Bobtail) which said it was not legal.

I switched to a FS M&P 9 and run it as production for now.
