WOW!! Just saw one sold here for $2,000!

I got one around 2000 to uses at a "Gaming" gun. But with two young sons, my Saturdays and Sundays became Soccer Days.

While I actually carry a Shorty-9 the 5906 has been a Safe Queen for the past 24 years.

Any idea how many were built and has anyone actually used one?

Skjos list says 420 made. You could always start enjoying yours now.

More than 420.My serial number is higher than that.I have carried it and used it in IDPA.
Very good shooting pistol.

I have heard 435 , but without a letter we'll never know . I used to have a 5in , one of 14 , and that number was from a letter .

As many of us know , you can't go by serial# . S&W has been known to go all over the place with them .

Sorry to burst your bible there WLP . When I bought the 5906 IDPA , 4 & 5in , I was sent a copy of a letter from the man . In it it said that 14 of the 5in 5906 IDPA's were made . I carried it to the S&WCA symposium a few years back for the show and tell . I presented it and the number was backed up by Sarah15 .

My serial number is higher than 405 but lower than 450.
My friend and I each bought one his serial number is one lower than mine.

I have seen 4 of the IDPA 5906 5'' WITH serial numbers in the DPA048X's range and I saw one on GB with a low serial number DPA0414 and a member here said he had a high serial number of DPA0491.There were 4 more I know of with unknown serial numbers. That is 10

Cherrypointmarine said his letter said only 14 were made.

Saw a note on a GB listing that said the Serial # range is from 0479 to 0498 Only 19 made but the one above is SN DPA0414 which is out of sequence.

Cherrypointmarine, sorry about the number on the 5906 IDPA 5" I had got that number from McMillian years ago that he got from Roy. I have the 5903 IDPA 5" and the 4". So the number 14 for the 5906 5" thanks

I talked to sndbggr and he reminded me we had gone around on this at another time . The letter I saw was from an early piece , so it was right at the time . But there's actually 19 , with the last one with a sn that's not sequential .

I saw a post that was supposedly from you showing for Product Code 170265 at 64 with a question mark. Cherrypointmarine said he had a copy of a letter that showed 14 as the production number but later he said there were 19. Since we have serial numbers I could request a letter and see what Roy shows for a production number if he has records.

Does anyone have a letter for Product Code 170265,5906 IDPA,5''?

I've seen posts for the 5" 170265 showing a serial number range of DPA0479-DPA0498 (19), but I have also observed DPA0429 with a 5" barrel. I have yet to see a letter on the 170265.

So 5096 5" IDPA mfg 14 is not correct, now 19 is the number that's coming
up. skjos is right need letter to product codes. but do the math on 5" IDPAs,
Performance Center guns, adds up fast.

my 5903 5" IDPA serial is DPA420, 5906 4" IDPA serial is DPA0024

My DPA 5" gun, product code 170265, is within the serial number range skjos lists. My 4" DPA pistol serial number is just over 400. I have a picture of a DPA 5", serial #DPA0411, that sold on an auction site. As I ordered my DPA 5" direct from the factory, I decided to letter it. The letter shows the gun was delivered to a local FFL for me in January of 2007. Mr. Jinks makes no mention in my letter of the product code or number produced..

Had a bunch of them at one time. Now can account for 0018/0019 4" and
473/480 5". I know several others who have or had 5" guns. I thought someone here said the number was 50-60.

I remember a member pm'ed me when I first got mine and posted about it . He lived in Cali , law enforcement , and he and his buddies could account for 4 of them . Originally you had to submit a letter with a LE letterhead to get one of these .Both of mine came from a good friend that is a retired federal officer and he explained it to me .
