PC light hunter first impression

Picked up my PC Light Hunter tonight. Gave it a good once over and am pleased with my purchase. Fit and finish are as what could be expected, excellent. The wood grips that came on the gun were gorgeous, but they were quickly replaced with the hogue grip that also came as part of the package. Locks up very solid and both double/single action pull are great. I'm guessing around 9 lb double and crisp 3.5 lb single.

Unlike my 629 classic, the PC doesn't have the wide trigger or hammer. Don't think this is going to be an issue, both are very acceptable. Thought the PC was going to be a couple ounces heavier, than the 6.5" Classic but that must have been with the scope mount. It came in slightly less and balances well. Front sight is nice with the orange inlay. If there is one negative item on the whole gun, it would be the stock white outline rear sight. The sight blade has noticeable play. Not that it would detract any from how it shoots, but you would think for what you are buying that S&W could come up with something a little better. I'll sight in with the factory rear sight, but may switch to a custom after hunting season.

Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase. Can't wait to see how it shoots.

My Light Hunter came (used) with too light a set of springs - got misfires. I replaced the springs with a set of Jerry Miculek matched springs and tuned the action to 9.0 lbs dbl action and 3.0 lbs single action. Now, it shoots extremely well and is RELIABLE:

my own 625s.

I take it you are referring to a 629 Light Hunter in 44 Magnum?

Does S&W offer replacement front sight blades for these guns (patridge, fiber optic, gold bead, etc.?)

I looked on S&Ws website but couldn't find any.

Took the 629 light hunter out to sight it in yesterday. No time to play with loads so I gambled the same load that works in my 629 Classic would be acceptable (180 gr Sierra JHP, 28.2 gr H110). This load is far from max, but accurate and has performed well on deer in the past.

Shooting was done w/ open sights. The load grouped around 1.5" at 25 yards and 2.5" at 50. I'm sure the gun will do better than that with optics, but am quite happy with those groups with open sights. Being this was the weekend before hunting season, the range was getting quite busy and the wind was picking up as well, got my work in and left. No time for pleasure shooting. After hunting season, I'll set up the scope mount w/ scope and play with some loads. Had to raise the sight up a bit to get the 180s hitting point of aim, not unexpected. Muzzle break reduced muzzle flip noticeably vs. my Classic. Recoil actually felt a tad less, but that may have been my perception. So far, I am quite happy with my purchase and would recommend.

I love the 625's pic, would look great next to my 625MG, Congrats on the 629 Light Hunter, I bought my dad one of these because he said he wanted to try out some pistol hunting and it to was a great shooter.
