I took advantage of the rebate and picked up a Shield 45 PC. I took it to the range today for the first time today and I think I may have struck gold with this one.
I only shot 75 rounds through it, but it shot absolutely perfectly, with not even the slightest hint of a hiccup. And the accuracy is amazing, right out of the box. It even makes an average shooter like me look good.
My first Shield, a 40 was never this good, or anywhere near this accurate. It took an Apex D/C trigger kit and some adjusting of the front sight to finally whip it into shape. Finally after some effort it shoots right on. But the Shield 45 PC needed nothing. The trigger's not as good as I expected it to be, take up is good, reset is perfect, but it's still the typical gritty S&W trigger, PC or not. I'm sure that it will improve as it is shot more.
Recoil is very manageable. I'm not really sure how much the porting helps, but compared to the 40 Shield, there isn't that much difference. The 45 is probably a little less snappy, but I've never been bothered by the 40s recoil. Although the 45 Shield is only a little larger than the regular Shield, that little difference seems to make a big difference. It's just easier and more comfortable to grip and the new grip texture keeps it from slipping in your hand.
All in all the PC Shield 45 is a great shooting gun. I think it's definitely a keeper. Here's a typical target from today's outing. The two large targets are the 45 Shield while the two smaller are from a M&P 22Compact.
