People's manners and way of thinking...

You'll go crazy waiting for people to change for the better. You can only change the way you act and react. Somebody got it right a long time ago with the "Golden Rule".

I have very little time for Social Media. I am exposed to it thru my family members who tell me who said/did what. It seems that everyone on Facebook and like sites are poets, journalists, authors, and experts in many fields. In truth the vast majority are none of these things. Rather, they are average (or below average) souls that have found a soapbox upon which to stand to expose their insignificance and to consume vast amounts of time in their days instead of doing something of value for their community, mankind, or themselves. If a fraction of the time spent on Social Media was devoted to volunteering somewhere (or actually 'working') the world would be an improved place. Bottom line: Don't let them get you down. It's just not worth it and you likely are not going to change them. If you find it bothersome or frustrating, go to the pistol range or fishing instead. Otherwise, try to reason with those that cannot be reasoned with and enjoy the challenge.

JJEH, so how do you like wrestling with pigs?

Not so much...

My original post states two different situations. The one really bothers me. When people show no manners, respect and don't have values... that's just frustrating.

Facebook I use to connect with family, friends and of course to promote my business. I did online- and print advertising, it's both expensive. Facebook is free.

I don't want to change people, I want people to stop and re-think for a second. Then they either stick with their old opinion or at least say "I know where you coming from, but I disagree with you." IF people agree with me, good!

Since a few month I'm trying to get into writing. And when I post it and someone comments on it, I'd like to reply. Unless it's stupid...

But you are right though, social media is full of questionable stuff and it seems like that too many people have too much time on their hands. But that's their decision. I'd like to build something big and I'd like to include social media, incl. online boards. Just seems like I'm getting frustrated from time to time...

I haven't read all the responses, but I can tell you this for certain. Some people are all wrapped up in themselves and themselves only. They see nothing unusual in asking you to go out of your way for them. They think it's normal.

Having lived in an area where this kind of thinking is prevalent for the last twenty years, it changes your outlook on your fellow man. I have no use for such people and I tell them so. I simply won't deal with them at all.

Where I grew up, if you hit a patch of ice and ended up in the ditch, at least 5 or 6 people would pull over and help. Around here people just keeping driving by. They could care less. But if you didn't stop to help them, then you're a selfish idiot.:eek:

Selfishness and greed is destroying this country.

We are observing the fabric of our society unravel from what we grew up with. Our values are being replaced.

The new fabric of society is being formed by influences we did not have. Since the advent of exploding venues of communication the basic rules we knew are ignored or replaced.

We had manners that are no longer valued, concepts that have been tossed aside, and breakdowns that are ignored.

I fear for my grandchildren as the rule of the day, when they are grown, looks like it will be "There are no rules."

I hope I'm wrong.

You are so right, it's disturbing how right you are!

Problem is we know crystal clear what we mean when we say something and the implications that we intend, what we do not know is what it and its implications will mean and how it will be understood or misunderstood by others.
