Perfect Guns (without any finish left!)

SixgunStrumpet , RM and bone grips are great and always welcome in Mauriceville Texas . did I mention , I am a sucker for nice grips :D

So, one of the sets you have there in your post seem to be jigged...but they don't quite look like bone. Are they jigged ivory? I've seen a few sets of those.

Also, if you like nice grips...I have something arriving tomorrow I think you are going to like. I haven't bought much in the way of gun related stuff in a while, and I'm buzzing with excitement for them to arrive.

I have a circa 1967 S&W M-36 that was bought by an L&N Railroad Engineer. He fired it just 5 times after he bought it.

It then ended up in a leaky tool chest in the trunk of his leaky work car for over 20 years.

His grand daughter inherited it and the original box of ammo in taters. The Winchester box was wet paper pulp with 45 rds. of 158 gr RNL.

The gun looked like an orange boat anchor. It was covered surface rust and deep exterior pitting everywhere.

The surprise was that the bore and interior of the cylinder's chambers were pristine; No rust, no pitting and it locks up tight.
After soaking a week in a "de-rusting" solution I used brass brushes and wheels to remove the rust. The grips were also a total loss.

I found and old pair of cocobolo J-frame stocks cleaned them up with 0000 steel wool. and ended up with a $50 good shooter with a bad complection.

*I'd appreciate it if one of the moderators can rotate the photo

This one comes pretty close, a FN Hi Power from the late '40s.

When I bought this model 15 at a good price thirty years ago the finish was very worn but was mechanically excellent. I bought it for my 11 year old son to shoot and in the interest of ease of cleaning and cosmetic appeal I had it bead blasted and electro less nickel plated. I also had the front sight replaced. I have to say I really like the look.

Guns that have lived long, rough lives are almost always the coolest guns out there.

Back in my wild and crazy days the Illinois State Police had possession of my S&W Model 34 for a few weeks. But we best not go into that here.:o:rolleyes:
