I purchased this 1006 from a shop in town that was going out of business (new old stock)
Great shooting pistol my new favorite.
talking to other shooters they have told me that S&W did not make a performance center classic series.
After I show them the pistol I get a big ????
Have any of you seen one or know if this is S&W just making use of the last remaining parts they had in stock?
Thanks

Never seen or heard of a PC 1006 but I want one. Thanks for the info and pics. Best of luck.

I didn't notice the production numbers on the pistol when I looked it up; actually I don't believe they gave any numbers, but I would have to believe that your 1006 is pretty freaking rare! Hopefully some more Forum members will chime in with more info.

Those are parts guns assembled in the Performance Center from remaining production inventories. Usually the entire run of these gets offered to one of the larger distributors.

The clue is that a firearm built on the Performance Center's CNCs with a PC design would have a PC logo in place of the S&W logo on the firearm.

You will notice the production logo on your 1006

Regardless, I think this is a super cool find. I think most people, myself included, had no idea this even existed until now.

That's one cool thing about collecting......you never know when something unknown will turn up.

Thanks for sharing and enjoy that pistol!

I have a bit of a different take on this one. I do not see any PC indicators other then the engraving. Although the engraving looks factory, it may have been done after the gun was sold then returned to S&W. That being said, a 1006 in this condition is a true gem. Congrats on a great piece!

No Briley Bushing
I was able to track down the gunsmith that worked for the shop i had purchased this pistol from and asked if he remembered this 1006.
He thinks they received two of them but they did not sell well as cost was about $700. He thinks Colt SAA's post is about right as to using up the old stock of parts and sent out as a classic with a trigger job. (he showed me the difference between my 1006 and a stock trigger)
Thanks to every one for your posts

Black hammer and trigger on Smith semiautos is a clue to possible PC Gun.

Very nice PC 1006 maulem5, congrats!

Black hammer and black trigger on Smith semiautos, were toward the end of the run as they started using the black MIM parts. Although I could be wrong...

A very interesting find, to be sure. I had an S&W 1006 many, many years ago. Good, solid tank of a gun. I just never was able to warm up to the trigger on it however.

I'm not sure if maulem5's trigger is MIM but I'm sure his hammer is. Didn't MIM parts appear in 3rd generation autos the same year they appeared in revolvers, 1995, two years after the end of production 10 MMs? That also points towards using up parts S&W was no longer going to keep on hand for repairing warranty returns.

Reread replies #3 and #5. maulem5 wrote the SKU on his 1006's box matches the Performance Center 1006 SKU in the SCSW, 170096.
