Like a knucklehead (didn't really NEED another .45ACP), plunked my $$$ down on a S&W Performance Center 945-1 stainless in 5 inch. My nearest gun store was stripped of all but 4 modern defensive handguns so this one was easy to notice. Unfired as new in box on consignment. Vagaries of California gun laws means I can't pick it up until April 17th at the earliest. Always wanted a Performance Center gun and this was on the short list. Found a picture - it was made up for Lew Horton and has a different trigger like this one.

That's an awesome gun--I know that a lot of folks prefer the 945s to their 1911's.

I have a deposit on a 945-40. Got to love California--I'll be about 2 days ahead of you on my pick up date.

Good luck with the gun!

Sweet! If you like your's anywhere near as much as I like mine, you'll be very happy with your purchase.

Wow, that is one drop dead gorgeous piece of hardware. April 17th? How long is your waiting period!!?

I ordered the black one, it should arrive in a couple of weeks.

It's complicated and a new one on me. The original owner placed it on consignment at a gun store. They treat it like a pawn ticket. I guess you can't sell a pawn for 30 days so they can't do the 4473 or the California DROS until then. That date will be 7 APR. Post paperwork California 10 day wait and you have 17 APR. Ain't life grand? Weather is nice and the women are pretty - not that it does me any good. Not much else to recommend Southern California.

Absolutely beautiful. I have an older one and it's still very accurate and a pleasure to shoot. Hey "mburger", if you found a 945-40 don't let it get away, only about 300 of those are around.

My local dealer actually had 2 945-40's, one was NIB and one was LNIB. I bought the LNIB. (I believe the dealer still has the NIB gun.) Can't wait to pick up the gun, but because of California's one handgun a month law, I can't start the 10 day waiting period until April 5. However, I ordered 4 extra magazines from S&W. They arrived today, after only 4 or 5 days. S&W said they have about 100 or so more magazines in stock.

Just started the DROS paperwork yesterday and I noticed the s/n alpha characters were in lower case. The s/n string is "bam00xx". Based on the fired case, she was born July 2003. Does this lower case stuff have any significance? My S&W reference data is silent on this.

You will absolutely love your 945. I have a 945-1 and I feed mine 185gr FP plated Raniers and it feeds them flawlessly. Stick with the heavy spring as the gun will be tight and lubricate it well. I think I bought mine in 2003 at the Turner's outdoorsman in San Marcos. On sale $200 off. I went to look at a Wilson combat polymer framed gun but bought the 945. No regrets as it is an awesome piece of machinery. I wanted the ultimate accurate target pistol and that is the 945. I know that the wait will be worth it for you. Bruce

Bill, that's one more Smith that I would love to own. I missed my opportunity back right after they were released. The prices around here (when you can find one) is nuts.

I believe Retting's in Culver City has a new 945-40 for around $1,200.

You will love the 945-best .45 ACP semi-auto pistol ever made. I'd like to get a third magazine for mine. Anybody have suggestions as to where you can get them the cheapest? Thanks.

They are real lookers. If i do say so myself. You take much better pictures than I do.
Only 130 I do feel special now.
