Performance Center Added Value ?

Your thoughts please. I've been wanting a 637, no good reason, I just want one.

Davidson's has a 637 with a Performance Center trigger job. It's item number is 178024 with a MSRP of $568, just $99 more than the regular non tuned model. But the Davidson's price quote at a local gun store is only $43 more for the tuned one. That would be a no-brainer.

The rub is that Kentucky Gun Co. has a 637 on sale this week for $345, even with the FFL fee it would be $122 less than the Davidson's P.C. tuned gun.

So the question is is a Performance Center trigger Job worth $122?

If it were me, I would buy the 637 Pro that is in stock in the local store.

I get the Performance Center action and I help support my local brick and mortar business.

Those two things together are worth $122 to me.

Have you even gone to your LGS to see of they would negotiate down a little bit more?

Tell them the truth, that you prefer to buy from them, but the internet offer is very tempting and see what they say. You might be surprised.

I guess I gave too much information. The Performance Center gun would have to come from Davidson's.

I just wonder if a Performance Center tune is worth a few extra dollars. Or would I be better off to drop in a reduced power trigger rebound spring and let the rest break in on it's own.

Standard trigger with standard springs works fine. Great, in fact. There was a great article in a recent Field & Stream where they tested accuracy of two identical rifles, one with a good trigger and one with an "awful" trigger. Every single tester, including Petzal (Rifle Editor) shot the awful trigger rifle markedly better.

Here is a target I shot from 7 yards with my 442--10 rounds of Gold Dot 135+P (DAO, obviously.)


These guns are perfectly capable, right out of the box.
I say, buy the standard revolver, leave its internals alone, and spend all the surplus money on ammo and trigger time.

For 637 that is to be carried for CWC for SD, $122 to slick up the trigger is a waste. I' just dry fire it a lot to build up my finger strength and to polish the parts that rub together. Accuracy differences @ SD ranges would be so minimal, that for the average civilian, it's a moot point.

Now if the gun was a competition gun or a hunting firearm to be used at distances over 70 yards, then a trigger job or the extra monies for a PC tuned action is well worth the extra bucks.
