Was talking to the S&W Performance Center regarding a recent purchase and they mentioned in passing that the new Performance Center 686 series ship with a ribbed mainspring, as opposed to the flat on in the standard 686.

I instantly thought of the Wolff PowerSpring.

I don't recall them saying 'Wolff', but the description sure seemed to match.

Am I the only one for whom this is new information?

The Performance Center has been using "ribbed mainsprings" in the revolvers for decades now.

I have never inquired as to which spring manufacturer is making them for the Factory and like many OEM parts, manufacturers have probably changed over time

That is what they mentioned to me. My only experience with a PC revolver and grips off is my new-to-me 686 plus, a Lew Horton edition PC carry comp from 1996.

It had a smooth/flat mainspring- not the ribbed ones like I've installed in my 586 or model 10.

I am wondering if the ribbed mainspring use by PC began in the 21st century or in one of the last years after mine was made.

just surprised me.

So.

You've answered the question! I AM the only one for whom this is new info! :D
