It was brought up in another thread by forum member Sevens that he really appreciates when forum members “in the know” share prices. If I am considered to be “in the know”, I am truly humbled.

I didn’t want to hijack another thread, and so I created a new one.

As I stated in the other thread, it appears that Triple Lock revolvers were significantly undervalued prior to 2020 as compared to other large bore revolvers such as the Colt Single Action Army revolver and the Smith & Wesson Registered Magnum revolver.

For this one, which hammered at $1400, I am into for $1583. 12% buyer’s premium, no sales tax, a $15 FFL fee, and shipping cost were waived as this shipped during the time frame when shipments could take over a month, as this one did. The auction house graciously refunded shipping costs which was a surprise, as this item was the last to arrive to the new owner, by far, of items shipped from that auction.

This revolver looks much better in person, I don’t Flitz anything. Given the recent run up in Triple Lock valuations recently, at least since this sale in October 2020, never say never, but this might have been, in hindsight, my last purchase of a respectable Triple Lock revolver in “decent” condition.

I am by no means an expert, but I think you got that one at a very good price. I searched for a very long time to find one I felt I could reasonably afford on my income granted mine is chambered in the less desirable 455 I am very happy with it especially since I got it for $900.00. I think any decent Triplelock in 44 special below two grand is a good find. There are always flyers ones that should have brought more that don't. I wonder with younger folks that only want the latest semiautomatic whatever what the future prices will hold I went to a gun show last weekend lots of new polymer stuff very few early Smiths, and exactly one antique topbreak Smith.

15 years ago, I paid waay too much for a 5" Parkerized .44 Special TL. It didn't even come with a pair of grips. At the time, I was single and had some extra money to spend. It turned out to be an excellent shooter.

It appears the value has caught up with the price I shelled out back then. Am I sorry I bought it and didn't wait and look for a better one? Not on your life!

Holy Cow !
I had to check and make sure that wasn't one of mine :)

The addition of mother of pearl stocks to a nickel Triple Lock revolver seems to have been popular circa 1915. What are the details regarding yours?
Not much of a back story on this one, I have never lettered it.
6.5" Original nickle gun still in its original finish. As I recall, one of the stocks is chipped.
Picked it off Gunbroker in Feb, 2020 for $850. The photos are from the original auction.

Bruce

That is a nice example, well bought, IMO.
Every pre-war, pre-1950, 1950 Model, and interesting (to me) S&W N frame I have acquired came with a passing thought in the back of my mind: "Did I pay too much?" I won't know until it's time to sell, probably. But I'm glad to have acquired a few 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 1950 Model .44 Specials, pre/post-war and 1950 Model HD/OD's, and Hamilton Bowen S&W examples when the opportunity arose. No regrets. Not yet, anyway!
