Okay, never mind the 2nd Amendment/RKBA/"I don't need no stinking license" discussion, please.....

Does your state call your carry "item" a license or a permit?

Is it CCW, CHL, or called something else?

In Texas it is a CHL, a concealed handgun license.

I understand that in Florida it is CCW, concealed carry weapon, and that it covers the concealed carry of any weapon, from handgun to switchblade knife to club. Am I correct?

Other states............?????

Just curious.

Florida calls it "Concealed Weapon or Firearm License." It does authorize "other weapons" but why bring a knife to a gunfight. I have a couple "automatic knives", never take them out of the house. Joe

In California it is a PERMIT. Refered to colloquially as a CCW permit. In CA it covers only firearms. Knives and impact weapons are seriously frowned on here. Shooting someone is OK, sometimes. Knifing them is considered bad form.

Since I'm in the Commonwealth of Kentucky now,

and the State Police issue a 'License' as a Concealed Deadly Weapons Lic.

One can carry any type of weapon/firearm one desires concealed with this license.

Open Carry, no license required.

Life is good in the Commonwealth

So, to further the thought of robertrwalsh, one presumes a blackjack to the skull is highly inappropriate when bullets will do just fine thank-you- very-much. I'll remember that if I ever go to California again.

BTW, this is all very interesting to me. Terms like CCL and CWP are not heard very often. I have NEVER even come close to hearing CDWP - I love that one.

+1 on the FL thing. you can carry anything deemed a "weapon" except slapjacks, and brass knuckles. it is a "concealed weapon or firearm license". God bless the "gunshine state"...

Concealed in Indiana

The state of Indiana issues a "License to Carry Handgun"....mine has no expiration, is considered a lifetime license....and under the "license type" indentifies me as a retired police officer.

Mine is an "Alabama Pistol License-Unrestricted" it allows carrying a handgun concealed on my person or in my vehicle. We now also have open carry, not sure if that requires a license or not. All it means to me is that I don't have to conceal all that well. We didn't have to conceal real well before the recent open carry law, so I'm not sure how important that is.

TITLE 21 § 1290.3 AUTHORITY TO ISSUE LICENSE
[FONT=Arial,Arial Narrow][FONT=Arial,Arial Narrow] The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is hereby authorized to license an eligible person to carry a concealed or unconcealed handgun as provided by the provisions of the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act.

However,

The State of Oklahoma hereby recognizes any valid concealed or unconcealed carry weapons permit or license issued by another state, or if the state is a nonpermitting carry state, this state shall reciprocate under the permitting law of that state.

Wisconsin calls it a Concealed Carry License. Valid 5 years unless revoked. Open carry is also valid in Wisconsin and has been for many years for those 18 and older, no license required, however it's not exercised by residents often.
