Pete Rose

I guess it depends on what people believe the qualifications for the hall of fame are. Purely on baseball talents and accomplishments on the field, he belongs. However, based on rules that have been in place since the Black Sox he does not qualify, plus after meeting him at an autograph show , he's really kinda a jack***. I vote no.

A lot of people are so quick to forgive steroids use and look the other way.Rose always bet his team would win, nothing wrong with that.

If Pete could pull a few strings and get the Mariners into the playoffs I might be willing to say he at least deserves a hearing.

Pete, PM me.

As a manager Pete sometimes didn't bet on his team at all. What does that tell the other manager? What does that tell the NY mobsters that his bookie was associated with? Probably that his team doesn't have a good chance to win that day.

Pete was a great player and his career made a lot of MLB fans in his time. My opinion is that he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. The man loves baseball, even to the point of betting on his own team. It's been almost 30 years since he got booted out and he's 74. Give him a break. In today's baseball I doubt that sort of thing would get anything but a slap on the wrist.

Let him in. What he did on the field is undeniable. In an era when not-so-great players regularly get into the HOF, Rose was one of the greats.

In every clubhouse there are posted rules as to what is unacceptable for bbl players/managers. For decades they were very simple reading no gambling or association with known gamblers, the penalty being a lifetime ban. There is/was an annual meeting from MLB in every clubhouse with all major and minor league-ers explaining why and reaffirming the official position.
Pete Rose lied about gambling as a player and a manager, then claimed he never bet on his own team, then claimed he only bet on his own team to win. He has yet to be disproved on that that but has been on all else. He knew well what the penalties were.
He is a chronic liar who has put himself above the game at all levels and the ban should continue.
I am in favor of reinstating Joe Jackson posthumously but not if it sets any precedent for Rose. I believe Judge Landis misused his power and position to create the role of commissioner at the expense of the players and that the Chicago eight were victims of that.

Dog fighting, wife beating, drugs, rape, blatant cheating, steroids, cold-cocking a woman, biting, bounties, brandishing a weapon and drunken brawls are all perfectly acceptable (or at least forgiven over time).

But, betting on pro sports....is grounds for being banned for life.

Seriously? That's where we draw the line? Heaven help us!

I'm not a big sports fan and I say for how he played the game,,,,Let him in!
If Shoeless Joe Jackson is not there he should be,let him in as well!
All the bull salami that goes on in sports today, let'em in!
That's my thoughts on the subject!;)

I only see a problem if he bet on his team to lose ,meaning he might be manipulating the game.

Pete Rose has applied for reinstatement to baseball and will meet with the commissioner after the All-Star break. This is a great column by a St. Louis Post-Dispatch writer that argues against reinstatement. I agree with it 100%

Strauss: MLB shouldn't fall for Pete Rose's hustle : Sports

Pete Rose was stupid. He knowingly broke the rules. Having said that, It has been 25 years. He is entitled to go into the Hall of Fame. You don't get punished for being stupid. Look at all the stupid people around.

I understand how some feel as they do about him not being in the HOF but as I get older, I guess I get more tolerant. Let him in. Do not allow him to become active in sports, but give him his due,

ah dicho

I grew up watching Pete play. We even went to the game the day he hit the record breaking hit. And we loved it. But Pete is a BSer. Yes, he's also a con man. He was also up in the thin air of great players like the Babe.

So from that perspective, I feel he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. I have no problem with him waiting this long, or even a bit longer. Certainly the season after he croaks, they should install him. I can see the irony of denying him while he lives. But denying he was a great player is just wrong.
