Pete Rose

Rose's achievements are already recognized in the hall of fame.

He knew the rules about gambling. The rules are severe because gambling is an open door for organized crime to directly influence the outcome of games. EVERY player and manager is well aware of this rule. He broke rule. He lied about breaking the rule. He continues to lie. Hard to "forgive" a past wrong when it is still happening in the here and now.

Recognize the achievements. Leave the liar out...along with the roid freaks.

Now...let's talk about Gaylord Perry...

Just pretend this is witty.

No !! Never !! No gambling is one of the very first rules of Baseball He knew it and disregarded it because he thought he was above it ! Someone said he never bet against his team .. but we don't know that for sure ! No one knows what he bet. He should have be tried for tax evasion if he won any amounts he defrauded the US .. He for years denied ever betting on anything and lied to everyone .

He is a disgrace to the sport so many love !!

Gambling is against the rules, Rose broke them. I vote NO.

I also believe he should Not be allowed on the field of Any Major
League stadium for any reason.

Locknload-
Shoeless Joe Jackson- took money to throw the games in the 1919 series.
He may not have tried to throw the games, because he hit pretty good.
But Joe TOOK the money.
Shoeless Joe Jackson does Not deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. This is a
tragedy because he may have the best hitter to ever play the game.

This brings up another point. Some of the owners were extremely tight paying the players.
I believe they are somewhat complicit in causing the 1919 scandal.
The owner of the Chicago White Sox, was Charles Comiskey.

I don't think Rose betting on his team to win had any effect on his play or the outcome of the games involved.

Are you going to deny Tom Brady entry into the NFL HoF for example? Should he be banned for life? Some might argue that he cheated for an unfair advantage and his actions hurt more people than did Mr. Rose's.

.

Comparing what Rose did to what Brady did, is ridiculous. The penalty for gambling on Baseball is lifetime banishment. The penalty for an equipment violation is $25,000 fine.

Don't forget that the black sox scandal almost ruined professional baseball. So the MLB had a very strict rule in place to make sure that it never happened again. Get caught gambling, on baseball at all, get banned for life. Period.

As far as not effecting the outcome of a game, one of the games he bet on he kept his pitcher in way too long in an extreme effort to win. Wrecking his shoulder and effectively ending his career. He wanted to win that one game, and disregarded his pitchers safety, and the season.

I can't believe the commissioner even agreed to meet with him.
