Peter Gunn's Gun?

The Mike Conners as undercover cop show was "Tightrope"

I think Peter Gunn carried whatever the prop department had handy. Sometimes the gun changed between camera angles.

Who was a gun nut when he was younger.

You may well be right. Mike Connors did play both Mannix and the guy on, "Tightrope." Don't know if he wore the gun the same place on both shows.

Note that Craig Stevens looks tired and not too focussed in those pics. Not like he was tense and really about to shoot someone. He must have grown very tired of all the publicity photos. I suspect that most actors do, at least those without huge egos.

What do you combat shooters say about the way Craig Stevens holds his J-frame in those publicity stills? That doesn't look either accurate or secure to me, but maybe I'd feel differently if I could top-lift a a basketball or dinner plate with one hand.

Heres a scene from Gunn. PG is on the right. I see 2 cyl. flutes, suggesting 5 shooter. Supported ejector rod = S&W.

"Another show that I liked then (I guess I was maybe 12) was, Adventures in Paradise, with Gordon Somebody. When he had a a gun, it was a Webley MK IV .38. He kept it hidden on his boat, sailing near Australia"

I remember that show..

I believe the actor's name was Gardner McKay

Peter Gunn and Bourbon Street Beat were my two favs. didn't care much for 77 Sunset Strip. Also Mannix was another fav. of mine but, it came a bit later on. Can't leave out Dragnet with Jack Webb and Harry Morgan.

Mike Connors as Mannix. I thought he should have played Matt Helm in the movies, not Dean Martin.

Mathias was a six foot four inch blond guy, Mike Connors definitely not!

In the early series Mannix packed a PPK in a cute little rack spring holster, cross draw. All the Bad Guys carried M&P 2". Then things changed, he carried a revolver and the Bad Guys all PPKs. Musta been that James Bond influence.

Who wonders what happened to the Olds Toronado Custom?

I know this old, but I just rewatched the first episode and I looked up what he had, but as I hit the forum there was a pretty clear shot. Definitely looks like a detective special 1st issue. You can see the half moon front sight and the exposed ejector rod. I may be wrong but it strongly resembles at DS. I didn't read all the way through the list because the subject got onto Lola Albright so I just skipped to the bottom.

A little trivia Herschel Bernardi was also the voice of Charlie Tuna in Starkist adds.
Also Peter Gunn is running through Firestcik/Amazon I have watched 1 2/2 seasons of the 3 seasons

If COZI-TV runs Peter Gunn or any of the other shows y'all mentioned I'll be watching. They run The Lone Ranger at least twice a day, and Kojak and Quincy and Ironside (original) have been advertised recently. Oh, the Rockford Files, too. Some fun old shows that I will watch.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Have the Peter Gunn series on DVD, watched every episode. Back in the day it was a great show! ;)

Pete's girlfriend Edie Hart / Lola Albright just passed back in March at the age of 92 :(

Lola Albright was certainly among the best lookers of the 1950s and '60s.

For some reason, I never watched Peter Gunn when it was on the first time. Was it any good?

I've never seen it in re-run format either, but many of the popular series from the earlier days of television didn't age well.

Peter Gunn is one of the first "adult" detective shows without fake heroics and depended on story writing and acting. While it might seem archaic and formulaic today it was a groundbreaker for its time. Its theme song still stands as one of the best...alongside Rawhide, Hawaii Five-0 and maybe a few others.

M Squad with Lee Marvin was another good one as was The Untouchables...at least for the first season or two.
