Leaving this Friday for Great Bend Kansas for a Pheasant hunting trip with some buddies I went to college with in the early 1980s. There will be a pretty big group of us and we always have a great time, and the little town where we stay pretty much shuts down except they have a big breakfast at the elementary school for the opening day hunters. When you check in to the hotel the clerk asks "do you want a room with dogs or without?" You do have to provide your own dogs but nearly everything else is provided for hunters and there is even a game cleaning area. You will see a little bit of everything, from the high roller guys from Texas with a fortune worth of hunting gear and custom Ostrich skin gun cases, to young kids looking forward to their very first Pheasant hunt. Guns and dogs are all over the lobby and I get pretty jacked up, but I was just wondering if anyone from the area knows if the bird population is any good this year, last year wasn't that great?

Dont know about Kansas but we used to go to Yankton S.D. and cross back into Neb. and hunt at my wifes kins place. If the weather was not to harsh last winter you should have great hunting this year, I hope you all do well and limit every day and the weather is decent for your hunt. Jeff

Our bird count is up quite a bit this year. The coyotes take a heavy toll on the pheasant eggs and chicks. There are coyote hunters out shooting them but there's just too many of the damn things.
