Anyone picking up on and watching the Star Trek show Picard?
It can only be seen on CBS All Access, a few other streaming channels may be offering this as a lure to their service.
Anyway this picks up on Capt. Picard after TNG, takes place about 15 years later where he has now resigned Star Fleet as an Admiral. Now he’s on his own mission against a plot involving Star Fleet and the Romulans. A lot of old Star Trek characters will be revisited.
So far this is only season one and on its third episode, it’s getting really good so far and I’m enjoying it.

I'd love to pick it up, as he was my favorite character in Star trek but my tv/cable/WiFi service costs about$250 a month and I hesitate to add anything that will raise it further. Enjoy! I'll hope that in future years, the beginning seasons may be carried by one of the networks I already pay for. Between tv, WiFi, and smartphone data for 2 people, it costs us an amount equal to a luxury car payment every month, unfortunately.

Amazon Prime offers a free seven-day trial of the CBS All Access service. Picard, season 1, looks to have six segments, I think. Three are up now. Maybe wait for all six to be up, then set up the free trial service, binge watch it, and punch out.

Look at dumping cable and start streaming with a Roku stick. I dumped Direct Tv about 1 1/2 years ago and I’ve been happy with picking what I want to see at low cost.
If I was still paying Direct I wouldn’t be seeing this either!

I want to watch it, but whenever I walk by the TV when my wife is watching it (I seem to always have something more pressing to do), I see elderly people muttering softly. It's not drawing me in.

We’ve been watching it. A little slow but I’m sure it will get better.

CBS All Access is available to those that stream via internet to their TV much like Netflix. $5.99 a month with commercials. $9.99 without. No brainer for us since we watch NCIS and Blue Bloods too. We dumped cable a few months ago.

Cordcutter here, too. We pay $45 per month for internet, and subscribe to Netflix and Amazon Prime at about $10 ~ $12 or so each per month. Have an air TV antenna in the attic and watch air TV occasionally. Way more to watch than we care to.

I want to watch it, but I ain't spending another dime on TV. It will be on Netflix or broadcast TV sooner or later. I can wait...

I've only seen the first two episodes of Picard and it is decent. But, after the debacle that is Star Trek Discovery it doesn't take much to be an improvement.

Yup. Given the fee for CBS All Access, it's a tough sell, but as I can watch all the ST series, NCIS, Blue Bloods, etc., reasonably well-spent. The ST Short Treks (10-15 minute featurettes) are worth the time. "The Trouble With Edward" is the best so far, but "The Escape Artist" is nicely done. Both are continuations of TOS stories (tribbles and Harry Mudd).

So far, Picard is showing some of the same issues as the hot mess of ST: Discovery, (CGI for the sake of CGI, messing with the canon timelines) but thankfully, no Klingon sequences requiring subtitles. Yet.
Pro: Getting to see most of the TNG cast again, and Seven of Nine (rowr).
Con: Preachy, politically correct, holier than thou dialogue. Not as bad as Discovery, but there lots'o angsty left in JL.

I doubt it will be on any other network. CBS is pulling all new shows from Netflix and others forcing you to pay for CBS.

Yup. But if it is any good it will happen. When it is old news and not considered "premium" content that they can charge a premium price for anymore, it will get syndicated so that they can keep making something off of it.
Same with "The Mandilorian". Sooner or later Disney will syndicate/license it to someone else like Netflix or Hulu or MeTV.
Like I said, I'm patient enough to wait.

Haven't seen this weeks episode yet but will watch it this weekend. I'm in for the duration.

Interesting to see that it has breaks (dip to black) during the episodes which lend it to eventually airing somewhere with commercials.

I think Star Trek is more than just the original series. I recently finished watching almost all of the Star Trek episodes starting with the original series, then went to The Next Generation, then to Voyager. Took me several months to get through all the episodes and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Then I went to Deep Space Nine and couldn't make it further than season two. Just didn't care for it. So I dropped Deep Space Nine and went to Enterprise and after going through all four seasons I actually think it was my favorite.

Was not a big fan of Discovery, but certainly better than Deep Space Nine.

I've watched the first three episodes of Picard and I'm finding it a little slow, but it does seem to be getting ready to take off. At least I'm hoping so.

I have seen it advertised and it looks good. I really like everything I have seen him do. I saw an interview once and he is a highly-trained Shakespearian stage actor. He was laughing about the irony of one episode of Star Trek paying him more than he made in a year at the pinnacle of the stage acting world!

You want to watch him in a movie that was amazingly good, catch Green Room. It is a murder/action/thriller were Patrick Stewart is a skin-head gang/clan leader. It is a role you would never in a million years expect to see Captain Picard in. And he is excellent.

As the TNG series went on you realized that she belonged to a very different race that marched to a beat of a very different drum. Sounds like a good scifi character rather than the usual habit of making them easy to relate to in terms of various human behaviors, good or bad.

I found the first 2 seasons of DS9 to be kind of blah myself. But starting in season 3, they started getting better. That's when they started the Dominion into the series. And if you like TOS, you really need to watch the episode, "Trials and Tribble-ations", which deal with time travel back to the TOS episode "The Trouble with Tribbles".

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but my answer to your question is the only problem I had with the Guinan character was the actress portraying her.

Guinan I'm OK with - Whoopi, not so much.

Patrick Stewart appeared on The View a few weeks back. They treated him like royalty. He is one of the show runners and an executive producer of STicard. He came on to personally extend an invitation to Whoopi to appear on the second season of the show with him. Whoopi was shocked. He hugged her and begged her to say "yes"...and she did!

Guinan will probably be a regular fixture on the new show from this point on.
