I want a Stainless 357. Magnum. I just want one good Smith revolver. 4-6" barrel thinking more of a 4" barrel. I dont have thousands upon thousands of dollars for one my budget is around 700$. of course the less the better :)

A good dealer should be able to set you up with a new 620, which is a seven shooter like a 686+ just sporting a 4" partially lugged barrel like the 4" 66 it replaced, for near that. You'll love it - basically a 686+ with a partially lugged barrel. Good luck!

Hello, Ocelot. How the heck are things in Southern California?
I escaped in 1987 and haven't gone back since.

Well , MY one choice in a stainless 357 revolver is going to be
any one of the 3" model 66s'.
From the first produced in 1985 ,the -2 ,right up to any of the
3 1/4" 66-5s'.
They can be found in the $500.-to $700. range and may be the handiest
of the 357 Magnum designs.
They shoot like a bigger gun ,and carry like a smaller one.

Unfortunately ,none of mine are for sale ,but, good luck finding
yours' . The hunt is half the fun!

You can get a very nice used 4" 686 for under $500. It will handle everything from .38 specials to hot .357 loads, and can be carried if necessary. If I were going to have "just one good Smith revolver", this would be it.

Allen-Frame,
Well, no durn wonder the rest of us can't find one!!!:(

That is one handsome bunch of guns.:)

I agree with everyone; 66, 686, and I'll throw in a M65! What's not to like? K-frame, .38/.357, fixed sights, stainless steel, AND it just may be the best "bang" for the buck in a 4-inch .357 S&W!

I have the 3-inch version and I think it's my favorite.

(P.S. X Socal here)

I've got a 2.5" 66 and a 4" 65. I couldn't like them any better. Both were under your price range. Look around there are a lot of good deals to be had on K frames.

I'm relatively new to the handgun world. I have a 4 inch 686 and am very satisified. I shoot at the range weekly. I have been shooting mostly 38s but have gone thru a box of 357s. I also own two MP 340s as a carry weapon. The 686 is an excellent buy

Find a pre-lock 4" 686 for $500 or so.

I'm finding that I love my 3" 686+ more than any of the others. What a nice gun! 7 rounds, medium frame, stainless, very nice trigger, handy and high quality. The 696 44 spl is also VERY nice, but only 5 rounds. The 3" J frame is a bit smaller, but again, only 5 rounds.

I mostly prefer N frames, so that would mean a 627. If you don't care about carrying concealed, then a 5" 627 8 shot would be a great choice. It has a short enough barrel to manage, long enough for good ballistics, great shooter and extra shots. However, the 686 is also a great gun with good balance and the strength and durability of the big N frames. For accuracy and long range shooting, I like the 6" barrel length.

i think century arms or jand g have the 4 inch 66 on sale now as police turn ins. might want to look there. my 2nd and 3rd smiths were 686 and 66. good luck getting one. Doeboy

Any model 66 or 65, pre lock of course. Regards 18DAI.

If I were only going to have one, it would have to be the 66. It is the greatest iteration of the k-frame .357. If you want a bigger one, just find a 28.

PICK MY REVOLVER

I GOT 66-5 3'' BARREL HI-VIZ SIGHT, FACTORY S&W HOGUE GRIPS.
I ALSO GOT 686-4 PLUS 4'' BARREL.I LOVE BOTH GUNS
I DO LIKE CARRYING THE 66 MORE THAN 686 JUST BECAUSE OF MY BAD BACK,BUT THE 66 WAY LIGHTER. BOTH THESE GUNS CAN SHOOT & HIT THE BULLSEYES AT 50 YARDS IN THE RIGHT HANDS. YOU WILL BE SURPRIZE HOW WELL THE 3'' BARREL SHOOTS.

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR CHOISE BEST REGARDS:cool:

Again ,here do you notice a pattern?
Some newbie named "revolver Ocelot"appears and says
" pick my revolver" then gets 20 responces to a vague question
about a 4"stainless 357 magnum revolver.
THEN ,,disappears. I'm sorry , but don't you feel like you've been
played for a fool??

HE' also posted a for sale in the classifieds for a model 34-1 ,and then disappeared.

Just being wary of all these transients that come and go on the forum.

Just my opinion. That ,and a dollar seventy five, will get you
a cup of coffee at starbucks.

Regards , A.F.
