Traded out my Rock Island Armory 1911 today in favor of the 4506. I have to say, this thing is a BEAST, but Im glad I grabbed it. While I know its going to be slightly more challenging to conceal, its definitely the full sized automatic I want to haul.
Being the son of a Marine combat Veteran, I heard countless stories about the 1911, how it saved my father on multiple occasions in the battle of Hue City among others. The 1911 has always had a special place in my family and I'll likely get another in the years to come.
But....
I never felt comfortable carrying the 1911 in the cocked and locked position. Yeah, I get that it has safeties, that my chances of an ND with a well tuned weapon and reliable safety are nil, but it still sort of had an ig factor - no matter how well it performed at the range. So instead of grabbing the RIA, I'd more often than not tote my model 60 revolver in a Crossbreed. Don't get me wrong, I've never felt outgunned with this classic snub, but I always found myself wanting more.
All in all, I'm psyched to have added what I consider a beautiful, yet useful weapon to my CCW repertoire. I've never been one for polymers and simply SUCK trying to hit anything with subcompact firearms other than my snubbie -- seriously, I had a PPS for a few months and was so pissed at the sight radius and awful MA trigger I gave up on it. Yes, the 4506 is a stainless steel brick, but it digests every kind of imaginable ammo.
Besides, if it was good enough for Vic Mackey and Sonny Crockett, who am I to dispute that kind of cool factor?
