I picked up a model 41 from a co-worker today, for what I think is a good price...I paid $400 for it, and love the looks and the feel.

What would be the best choice of ammo to shoot thru it? I have a bunch of bulk ammo I use for my 15-22, but not sure it would be the best choice for this beauty...

At $400, you stole that gun. Since it was a co-worker rather than a good friend, we can maybe let that slide but you should at least take 5 minutes to feel bad that you screwed him/her, then go out and shoot the gun to feel better and get over it. :)

Everyone recommends CCI Standard Velocity, both for accuracy at a reasonable price and for wear/tear on the gun (vs. High Velocity, etc.). Much of the bulk ammo is High Velocity. I think you want to keep the FPS around 1,000 or less whereas the HV stuff is more like 1,200 or more.

The best ammo if your not shooting matches is what will feed reliably, 41's tend to like HV. Unless your a very good shot you'll never see the difference. That guns worth about twice what you paid, ignorance comes with a price. The short barrel models are sought after by BE shooters.

Thanks for the input guys, 'preciatte it, that being said...WOW! Went out and put a few rounds thru it using a variety of what I had around. Had no problems, and that has got to be about the best shooting gun I have ever shot.

He set the price for it, I had no idea...now I do feel kinda bad...Off to shoot again!! :)

Everything I've tried in mine seems to shoot fine. Cold weather and wildcats and thunderbolts don't do well together. CCI mini-mags seem to be the best all-around ammo I have found for price, accuracy, dependability, and putting the game down. JMO

I recommend CCI Standard Velocity and that's what I use in my 41s. Dick's Sporting Goods sells the 500 round bricks for $24.99 although another poster recently said that price has gone up a few dollars. I haven't checked locally yet.

Another vote for CCI standard velocity. If you really want to treat yourself to some great accuracy try a box of CCI green tag. It's hard to believe the great groups you get with the standard velocity, can be improved, but the green tag really works. Unfortunately it's too darn expensive to shoot on a regular basis.

M41 ammo

I've use T22, remmington, wolf, over the last 40 years with my 41. But they all eventually had tons of duds. I use to buy by the case but now I only buy 2 or 3 bricks at a time. I have only use CCI standard velocity for the last 10 years of so. It has not had hardly any duds.

I also vote for CCI SV. Only problem is that I checked with two local (one was a 90 mile round trip) Dick's Stores and both were out of the 500 round bricks. One even said "Good luck" finding any. Is there a production problem or have all of the winter pistol leagues bought it all ?

Pick up several boxes, get a rest, go to the range and find out what it likes. It may surprise you. Although standard velosity is recommended.

CCI Standard velocity is about the best ammo you can feed a 41 with. It is accurate (I shoot mid 280s NMC with it) and it is reliable. I can't recall the last fail to fire I had with CCI Std vel. I have tried many other "cheap" brands only to find reliability problems. Stick with what is a proven ammo for the gun and avoid the frustrations.
