Yes, there are still bargains to be found on GB. Received a set of Cokes in the mail today. There was a total of 3 bids made. With shipping, taxes and fees, gave $248.21 for these. They may not be perfect, but other than a couple of minor dings, they are very nice. The checkering is sharp and crisp. Cleaned them up a bit and gave them a coat of Ren wax. I'm pleased.

Before & after...

Out of curiosity what are a nice set of Cokes going for these days?

There's a set on eBay, or was not too long ago, for $995 although at that price they should be there a long time.

As to more reasonable pricing, there were two sets at the Symposium last week, probably more than two but of the two I noticed one was priced at $500 and the other $550. Both were in very good condition.

Thanks Jeff. There's an Outdoorsman at a local Cabelas (looks to be about a '34 vintage) wearing a set of nice ones. I'm seriously considering it, though it is typical "Cabelas" pricing. If you're going to get something with the wrong grips they may as well be Cokes!

I looked at that Outdoorsman awhile back (on line only) and considered having them ship it here. I think the stocks have been refinished but they look good anyway. I wondered about the "wear" rings on the back of the cylinder around each chamber. If I were close enough to do a "hands on" I would, and check to make sure it hasn't been reamed for 357 (although that wouldn't bother some at all). Probably could find a set of correct '30s service stocks for less, maybe a couple hundred less, than for which you could sell the ones on it. Good luck, let us know if you get it.

Congratulations to Truckman on his new OD! We need pics and a range report when she comes home!
I didn't mean to yank the rug out from under you, but I've been looking at that one a while too...The time seemed opportune since I deposited the tax refund yesterday...Now I have to find a pair of correct stocks for it...It's a sickness I tell ya...:o...Ben

Trust me, not an issue! They have a tendency to go to the home where they belong, and I'm glad you scored it! I've actually been watching for a post war Outdoorsman, '55 or '56, as either a birth year gun or a matching one for my Dad's Heavy Duty.
The joy is in the hunt!

Asking a non educated question---just what is the appeal of these "cokes?"

Several things.

1) Scarcity - not a lot of them made, they were only offered on a couple of magnum models for a fairly short period of time, and like other target stocks, they were only offered as a special order item
2) Looks - larger area of checkering gives them a more attractive appearance plus they made them out of exceptionally pretty wood
3) Functionality - they have one uncommon feature that a LOT of people really like. They have a palm-swell, instead of the flat sides of other factory target stocks. This gives them a unique feel and makes them very comfortable for most people to grip. Incidentally the narrow top, wider middle at the palm swell, and medium width bottom is where the name comes from. When viewed from the rear they have a shape that kind of resembles the shape of the old glass Coca-Cola bottles.

Excellent reply from BC38. Here are a few pics to show what he said.

Note that the Cokes are more oval in shape, they have a similarity to Coke bottles of old, and more checkering. (Cokes on the right, standard targets on the left.)

I had never held a set of Cokes in my hand prior to obtaining these. My, my, my...what a difference in the feel.

Great pics. I don't have any pictures like those to illustrate the differences, so I had to do it with words.
Your pictures add a whole 'nuther level of clarity to my descriptions.
