When I was a little guy coke came in greenish glass 6 1/2 oz bottles. When you opened the bottle it was so lively that it tickled your nose. And when you drank it there was no mistaking a coke for a pepsi. Oh how I wish I had those instead of the watered down corn syrup that we drink now.:)

Your right, that's when Coke was good, and tasted great. I also remember my nose tickled.
Thanks for the memory.

I was addicted to coke too many years ago. I have heard claims both ways that way back coke actualy had cocain in it and not. They make some you can find from mexico with cane sugar that is suppose to be the same as the original coke but I dont belive it. Coca cola was definetly different and addictive up until the early 1960s I fully belive and I belive the company slowly weakened it to wean you off it. Either that or when we are young our taste buds are far more sensitive than when you get older. I remember when you couldnt hold coke in your mouth long as it would sting your cheeks. I belive the company was afraid if found out what was really in it lawsuites would bankrupt them and they had to change the formula. Years ago there were supposedly demostrations of people putting rusty nails in a bottle of coke and it would eat the rust off. Also I heard about a weiner would dissolve in it.

Costco sells Coke made in Mexico with real sugar. I'll be honest and say that I can't tell much difference and don't think it's worth the extra cost.

My little "cokes" gag was an attempt at some weekend humor:)

Maybe would have worked best during April fools day.

Anyhow.....I discovered these in the latino section of my local grocery store and I'll tell you what.....it does taste better than Coke in the plastic bottle. When ICE COLD in a glass bottle, it is better tasting, at least to me. I don't know if it's the mixture or the fact that it is bottled in glass.....maybe both.

Bottling in glass

Bottling in glass is clearly (no pun:)) better. I remember that one of the prime ingredients was phosphoric acid, which probably accounts for some of the 'bite' that it had. Ya'll may be right in that the old coke, though it was awful good, just MIGHT have been bad for consumption. Not that the new stuff is any better for you.

I told my daughters (19, 21) that bottled soda just has a better taste. Don't believe they have ever tried. It did have a "bite".

Remember when you had 10 oz bottles with the styrofoam wrap?

Amazing how small the qty of soda was in the bottles. What was it, 6 oz?

Anybody here remember Tab? Yuck! One of the earlier diet drinks.

How about Shasta?
"I want a thrill I want a wow, taste it all I want it now. I want a pop, I want a Shasta!"

They were terrible. They were the schoolteachers dream because a tab and an apple made lunch. (no way for me)
Remember the Mormon Tab-and-Apple choir?

And better yet, in SC it was 6 cents--and we complained that the state took 1 cent tax and other states paid only a nickel!
The original Coca Cola did indeed have a touch of cocaine which was responsible for "the pause that refreshes".This was removed with the Harrison Narcotics act in the 20's or 30's.
Remember the prices stayed about 15 cents until the Cuban sugar embargo and the price jumped to 50 cents or more.Later there was a glut of sugar and the price fell not one damn cent.WeWuz screwed!

In flight training a group would gather around the vending machine and play "Traveling", based in the name of the town of bottling embossed on the bottom of the green glass. The one who traveled the least had to pay for all.It was amazing how bottles traveled all over the US and were turned for the deposit. There was less roadside trash.
Wonderful memories.

I have a box full of old coke bottles in the attic. Just not sure where to sell them LOL

With all of the retro/throwback stuff popping up, how do you tell the difference between authentic and new?

Yes, Pepsi Throwback is the original, just like the Coke in Mexico. I like to go to Tijuana, BCN to my favorite Taqueria; eat 3-for-$1 street tacos and drink Coca-Cola.

It's SO good!

The Original Coke receipt used Cane Sugar, not Corn Syrup.

Corn Syrup is Cheaper than Cane Sugar.
When I was in Vietnam, Nov.1967-Nov.1968 the Vietnamese sold Bottles of Coke at some of our Check Points, $.50 a bottle. They would wait for you to drink it & follow you around to get the bottle. This was at Fire Base Oasis. In the middle of no where & right next to a Sugar Cane Field. We would cut cane, eat some & through it away. Too sweet.
Mexico uses the same Original receipt, Cane Sugar.
