Stopped by my local gun shop to pick up another 539 that I won on one of the major auction sites. The owner is great about helping with transfers and always likes to see what near new older S&W goody I've scored on.
I really love the 1st and 2nd generation 9mm autos in blue/black...(and the 645)...and just recently added a couple of the all steel versions. The 539 has become my favorite 9mm handgun. Mine shoot flawlessly, and I shoot them better than anything else I own or have tried in 9mm. There were a couple of younger guys in the shop at the time looking at the XD's, Kahr's and Glocks on display. When they saw my latest LNIB 539 they both commented something to the effect that "guns have sure come a long way since then" I didn't take the bait but just smiled and nodded. I feel very well armed with a 539 (and really confident in my 645's too); and while I like the fact that these guns will tend to; at the least, hold there value if I take good care of them, I do purchase them as primary self defense and EDC pistols. Yeah....we've come a long way with guns, and a lot of things for that matter.....but that doesn't mean that it's all for the better.
