Picked up Model 19 No Dash Today .. Did ok ? .. S/n Help

Went to the local gun shop today, Saw a real nice Model 686-4 over the weekend. And was hoping it was still there today. It was there.

BUT .. Also there was a Model 19 no dash. Priced at 599.00 .. Target trigger, target hammer and target grips ? In 4 inch, blueing has some lost at end of muzzle and cylinder. Lock up is tight, Checked timing and it was on the money. Overall it's in nice shape, no pitting, no rust. Just some blueing issues. I saw it and just had to have it. I hope I didn't over pay. It will be a shooter. You guys are great, let me know your thoughts .. And can someone date this for me. Thank You. My first 4 screw

Also, I pulled the grips, they are not marked/stamped with the s/n. I thought the older Smiths, the grips were marked to the firearm ?

Looks like a 1959 gun. Target stocks were rarely number matched in the mid-'50s and I have seen none later than this.

You got a very good deal on it. Where is the 686 - don't tell us you left it there, all alone?!

The M19 was the Peace Officer's friend, carried in more holsters than any other revolver. At least in Texas.

Nice shooter...... not a fan of Target triggers on "carry guns" as I tend to shoot them DA...but for some reason do like the target hammers......

No dash were 1957-59.... TH and TT were options......

That's not a bad deal, as far as what they are bringing these days. I often find myself living in the last decade when it comes to pricing. I feel like I should be able to pop in a gun shop and pick up a model 19 for $350, but that just ain't the case no more. In my opinion, they don't come no finer than a model 19!

At $599 in a shop, good find. I might get a set of grips for the field, those are to nice to beat up. Shoot, clean and enjoy.

Nice gun and a great price! Usually 19-3s (and later variants) are priced for that much or more, and earlier 19s are harder to find. I want to add another early 19 variant (I really want a 19-1) to my collection but so many of them were rode hard that finding nice early ones can be a chore.

Am I the only one who noticed that this model 19 does not have a target trigger? That is a standard trigger. A target trigger flairs out as it comes out of the frame. They are much wider than a standard trigger. The hammer is a target hammer. And despite the fact that the grips are target grips, target grips were standard for model 19s in that era.

I took his/OP's description....... a grooved trigger vs a smooth..... but doesn't look like a TT.

Standard trigger on that one.
Those early Model 19s had gorgeous blueing. Yours is not too nice to shoot, but nicer than many 60 year old pistols you'll find.

Congratulations. Great find. Great price.I have had my eyes on them for over a year and I have not run across one in that price range. The closest. I got too it was a 19-5 with box n papers like new. TH , TH & Target stocks for 700.00. You did great. I didfind a couple of dash 3's around 500.00 at a couple of L G S but they were rough for around five. Nothing as early as a no dash though.

You did good, Sir! I'd have bought it myself and I already have a couple. I carried a revolver just like that almost every day for a large number of years beginning in the last half of the sixties. My life and the lives of others depended on that Model 19 and it never failed to do it's job. When both of us retired, I tried every way I could think of to buy that revolver, but the State's laws prevented such "tomfoolery". I'm certain it, along with many others, were sold to the highest bidder for the whole lot after the agency I worked for transitioned to semi autos completely. They allowed some of us old hands to continue to carry our revolvers long after that transition began.

I took off the targets and replaced them with Pachmayers, which was one of the few choices available in those days that would stand up to the beating revolver grips took from door facings, seat belt buckles, and rolling around on the asphalt on occasion. I kept the Pachs and turned in the targets when the time came. Silly me!!! I can say that I fired many multiple thousands of rounds through that revolver while keeping it clean and well maintained, and it never failed to function and was still in good time and pretty tight after all those years. You have what is in my estimation the finest handgun available these days. I know not nearly all would agree, but it certainly is at the very top of my list and I don't see it losing that lofty position ever! Yours appears to be a very nice example and I congratulate you for immediately buying it and taking it to a good home! And I also think you bought it worth the money. It's a DANDY!!!

Well done. I am really jealous and if I try I could learn to hate you. Remember to shoot load again and shoot again. The 686 is one of the finest revolvers made by Smith and Wesson. The model 19 is one serious fine revolver.. Again well done and given time I will get over hating you.
