Congrats on the new 40. Instead of pulling the tool out of the grip use a pen or a paperclip or whatever is within reach to flip the deactivation lever. Another technique is to skip flipping the lever all together. With mag out and gun unloaded;
* lock slide back
* rotate takedown lever
* release slide and move forward
* when slide is forward in full battery position pull trigger
* continue moving slide forward and off frame.
Now start saving money for a progressive reloading press so you can shoot more.
Nice to know this, I tried it last night, but I have the mag safety model, so I had to do it with the mag in place. I prefer the method where fry firing is not required, since the "dry-fire" method seems to be a frequent cause of unintended discharge.
