Congrats on the new 40. Instead of pulling the tool out of the grip use a pen or a paperclip or whatever is within reach to flip the deactivation lever. Another technique is to skip flipping the lever all together. With mag out and gun unloaded;
* lock slide back
* rotate takedown lever
* release slide and move forward
* when slide is forward in full battery position pull trigger
* continue moving slide forward and off frame.

Now start saving money for a progressive reloading press so you can shoot more.

Nice to know this, I tried it last night, but I have the mag safety model, so I had to do it with the mag in place. I prefer the method where fry firing is not required, since the "dry-fire" method seems to be a frequent cause of unintended discharge.

The most frequent cause of unintended discharge is "The Trigger Actuating Nut". First step of disassembly is unloading the firearm. I go the extra mile by placing the ammo in a separate room. Since dry fire is the final function check after reassembly I have no problem with doing it during disassembly.

To buy a handgun in CT you need a CCW permit. To apply for one you need your safety class certificate, drivers license, a passport and the form itself fully filled out and notarized. You appear locally at your town's police station for a scheduled interview and then they run the app through state and federal background checks. You are supposed to hear back from them in 60 days, but if it takes longer there is no recourse. When I submitted mine they told me processing was taking about 10 weeks on average. So I'm still a range rental guy, but hopefully for only a little bit longer.

someone is jerking your chain. i just got my ct permit. its not a ccw. or a ccl. its a permit to carry pistols or revolvers in the state of ct. open carry is legal, with a permit. it took 8 weeks on the dot from local pd to getting my permit in middletown. its illegal for them to ask for anything other then the state required stuff when you apply for temp permit. they can only ask for the application and money. no passport or interview.

on the topic of the gun.not bad. when i first got my m&p 9, i couldnt hit the broadside of a barn. did my first idpa today and was keeping up with people who did it alot. once ya get used to the gun, youll do great

Just an update, I didn't see the sense of starting new thread. I have probably 750 rounds thru it so far. I had recently add talon grip tape. And when I was out at the range the trigger feel started to bother me and then I started to obsess about it. So after my session asked the counter if they could order the apex DCAEK and they can so I ordered it. I figure with all the love on the kit I have nothing to loose. Will follow up once I have the smith install it.
