I have plenty of J, K, & L frames, but had not found an N frame that I wanted, until yesterday.

While at a LGS, I found a 6" Model 28-2 and couldn't resist.

I assume it is from 1973 (N1835xx)

I may have over paid a bit ($600), but as I haven't seen one around my area in a while, I thought it was worth a chance.

That seems to be about the going price for one...and you got a really nice looking one. I have two 4" and am feeling the need for a 6"! Congratulations om a fine acquisition!

You know what happens when you assume......
Your gun is actually most likely from May/Jun time frame 1974.
Attsa nice un! ;)

HP

Really nice ! When I see pictures of nice HPs, I get a bad case of sellers remorse. Years ago ( when a mint example could be had for $350-4" or 6"), I owned one of each. Of course, I sold them both to help finance a new HP ( as in Hi Power) fancy:o

It looks really good for that price. The footballs are a big plus.

Often we get someone saying they just bought a better one for $400, but I question the veracity of such a comment. :)

I would say you did well. Looking at the turn line and the ejector rod, the revolver was fired very little.

I agree slickracer, as that is what caught my attention initially.

Once I got my hands on it, and could see how clean it is and how nice and tight it is, I was sold on it.

BTW, is it just me (or perhaps my area) or has anyone else noticed a lack of good, quality, used revolvers available recently?

Yes I have notied.

The lack of good quality, used revolvers on the market. They have been drying up for some time. And two years ago 600$ would have been high for the revolver in the original post. Not so much today.

I was in Gander Mountain, in Rockford, Illinois yesterday, and they had a beautiful 28 in there 4", Magnas, with box for $699. Didn't look like it had ever been fired. I thought the price was too high, but it may be right in the ball park with the box.

Man I would have bought it so fast would have gotten friction burns on my butt dragging my wallet out. There are not many 28's down here and when you find them it seems ya need to take a second mortgage on the house to get it.

I bought a really nice one for $150

In about 1985. LOL

Now $600 is about right for a nice example. Last one I got was a S serial number 6" with more wear. It was $600 with diamond targets and a belt and holster and I figured it was a good enough buy to add to "the herd"

Looks like a nice example to be sure, nice snag! The finishes on the 28-2's vary quite a bit from a matt/satin blue to ones that look a bit polished with a deeper blue like yours. And yes, two years ago I ran across a nice six inch 28-2 with goodyears, no box for $299.00. A no brainer buy fer sure. No pics of that one as the pics went down with the ship when my old computer went to digital heaven.

The price wasn't terrible. No matter, you won't think about after you shoot it. A great classic, and pretty much nothing as good is produced by S&W today. Enjoy.
