Picked up my first N frame, a 28-2

For $600 you did very well, especially in that shape. My 4" 28-2 doesn't look anywhere near as good. Mine does have some history though, my duty weapon for a few years as an armed security officer. It brought me through many night mobile patrols and a few scrapes so let it have its duty scars.

Add another vote for you did okay at $600 for a clean, well cared for 28-2.

I still firmly believe that the Highway Patrolman is way under valued by the market. I think one of the days that will change and the Model 28 Highway Patrolman will begin to catchup with its better dressed twin the Model 27.

It would take a lot more than $600 for me to part with mine.

I just paid $570 with S/H and tax for one in nearly as good shape in Indiana. I have shot over 600 rounds this week alone all .357 mag and it has become my favorite pistol if not favorite gun I own. And I make my own custom machined ones. Strings of fire are so easy. Only con is only 2 companies make non rubber speed loaders for it. HKS, and 5 star. Safariland stopped making them in 2008 so if you see any grab em, and SL Variant are rarely in stock anywhere since they're German and rarely make a batch.
Congrats man. Enjoy your beast of a hand cannon! :D

You did well in anyone's book. Nice find. Shoot it and enjoy your new-found hobby of collecting the darn things. They grow on ya. Started with one myself and now have several.

Congrats, the Highway Patrolman is a great revolver. My first gun was a 28-2, and I've added several more over the years. Just curious, was that 28-2 from Targetmaster?

As far as a shortage of revolvers for sale I'd say that depends on where you are. I've had a very good year revolver wise, picking up a 60-4, 64-2, 625-3, and 627-0 so far. I routinely visit 4 or 5 shops, so my odd's of running across a nice S&W are pretty good. My local shop in Gap, Pa currently has several nice S&W revolvers in the used case (19-3, 66-2, 25-3). I also know a shop in Philly that always has lot's of nice revolvers. If there were fewer revolvers for sale I wouldn't be broke so often.

Thought it might be. I was looking at it the other day, would've bought it but I already bought three other guns this week. That is a nice example of a 28, and it was a good price. I rarely see 28's for less than $600 anymore, especially as nice as that one.

Thanks!

Might I ask about the shop in Philly that has some nice revolvers? ;) :D

Lock's Philadelphia Gun Exchange at Frankford and Unruh in Northeast Philly. They always have a bunch of nice S&W revolvers, plus Colts, Rugers, etc. I picked up a nice 67 No Dash there last summer, one of three they had. I never go to Philly without stopping in to see what they have.
