I had put a purple M&P 15-22 on layaway for my wife last week since she wanted one for Valentine's Day. I took her to the range yesterday under the false premise we were just going to shoot. We always stop at the gun shop side before shooting, and as we walked in, I handed one of the guys my receipt without her seeing it, and he went and brought out her gun and laid the box in front of her. and opened it. She kept saying, "No, no, no, no way!" SHe was so happy and excited.
We took it into the range and one of the guys working there handed me some oil to use on it before shooting.
She got the first shots, then she handed it to me to fire it off a sand bag to sight it in. I shot two rounds at 50 feet, the longest the range has, and put two in the center, one in the bullseye and one just next to it about 1/8th of an inch away. The gun wasn't completely immovable on the bag and I had to reposition it for the second shot. I handed it back to her and said the sights are fine, right out of the box.
She absolutely loves the gun and put at least 300 rounds through it. We shot Federal from the 525 pack and had one FTE. I didn't think that was too bad especially considering we shot it right out of the box without cleaning it first, something I rarely do.
I took it later and shot 25 rounds at 50 feet using a 50 feet Pistol slow fire target, and shot them off fast. I put all but a few in the black and all were within about three inches. I love the gun too and may have to buy one for myself now.
One of the instructors there made a target for my wife with two large squares and had her alternate between the two, shooting back and forth. He told me he wanted her to have fun. She did very well. The instructor is very nice, he just comes in and helps her from time to time, she doesn't take any lessons. It is a great range and the people there are great.
All in all it was a great day at the range. My wife absolutely loves the 15-22. I'm very impressed with it. Now we need to buy stock in Federal and CCI.
