Picked up the Springfield SA-35 Hi Power range report added

Nice and clean, and kudos to S.A. on those grips too!
I bet she shoots as good as she looks also, let us know?
Worth every penny IMO.

Congrats to the OP, I have to admit I’m tempted. Am I on the list? Hint: Last month I replaced my iPhone 4S.

It’s amazing that the HP has had so few compact versions. It’s like the 1911 and the HP are two opposite ends of the scale, when in actuality they are similar in almost every other aspect.

Let’s hope SA makes a few different size options. Who’s going to be first to send their new SA to a custom house? :)

range report

took the gun out back today and shot 15 rounds of 115gr Winchester white box FMJ, 15 rounds federal 124 gr FMJ and 8 rounds of speer gold dot 124gr+P HP. All ran great, accuracy was outstanding but I was only shooting at about 6 yards. I used my Lyman tiger gage and got a 10 pull average of 5.14lbs. the steel target is what Lee Barner shot yesterday from 15 yards when we got back to my house, all the hits in the middle are Lee's, I did not want to mess up his group so I used the rest of the target.:D

As I said in the first thread about these pistols, I don’t think Springfield will be able to run the lines quickly enough to meet demand.

Thank you for an excellent report.

Forget what I was earning, I was a PFC E-3 in the Army at the time.Required some carefully budgeting, but it was worth it.
My HP has always been accurate with lead bullets.

Am I the only one wondering why if he was on the list at that store, he had to ask and was not called when it came in?

The OP mentioned he went to the shop with another Forum member; the other member mentioned the OP was just behind someone on the wait list who had declined the purchase, and the shop probably hadn't had time to call the OP.

BTW has anyone actually handling a new SA 35 noticed if the barrel was one piece or two piece manufactured? Some of the previous Browning manufacture was two piece and occasionally would separate in use.

Since the HP was manufactured for many decades (and by more than one company), I won't say it never happened, but honestly, I have NEVER heard that discussed as a weakness of the design.

I’m not looking to buy one but agree on not paying over retail for the privilege of owning one. Cars, guns, any toy, no way will I pay over retail and I hesitate to even pay retail.

I actually got a discount on my new 4” Python. I recently walked out on a car dealer, local Mini Cooper dealer, asking new retail on a 1 year old used car plus $2800 add on sticker. No way!

2-3K is common on new vehicles. Just did the dance with a Toyota dealer on a new Tundra. People will pay it. I got hung up on the trade so no deal.

I don't have a problem with dealers asking. If they can sell their merch at those prices more power to them. Things are topsy turvy these days. Dealers going out of business at an alarming rate.

I'm waiting on a new Anaconda at retail. Not $200 above retail. $1499 retail. If it doesn't happen it doesn't happen. ;)

Not a weakness of the general HP design, but certainly of what can happen with two piece barrels. I have seen and handled a Browning HP with the two piece barrel partly separated. The buyer of this gun in particular was going to out some bucks to replace or repair the barrel. I am hoping the SA 35 has a one piece. One piece is very doable in today's CNC machine world.

Dadgummit! Now I want one more than ever! I will buy the first one I find available! ;)

It’s amazing that the HP has had so few compact versions.

Other than a few very expensive custom jobs, only FM Argentina was ever able to build and market a compact version of the HP. The slide and barrel are about 1" shorter. In order to get it to work properly, they had to go to dual recoil springs and a full length guide rod. I have one and its my favorite HP. :D
