I finally got the email that my Sig 365 is shipping to my local FFL and I decided to pull the "I used to work here" angle and I am happy to report that I will be picking up a 627 Pro for $799 Monday.

I have had my eye on this gun for quite a long time so I am excited to be getting it finally. Will report on quality and range results as they come in.

Does anyone have a good lead on grips?

I've had mine for a little over 2 years and whenever I make a run to the range shooting 38 Special or 357 Mag, it is one of the guns I bring. I love shooting mine.

As for stocks for it, I have experience with Ahrends stocks on mine. They are the round to square conversion tactical models and generally feel good. But I find it tends to roll up in my hand when shooting full bore 357 Mag rounds double action. I am waiting on a set of Culina target round to square conversions to come in for my 629 Classic and I will then move my Ahrends retro combats from the 629 to the 627. The retro combats should do real well on the 627 since it has a lot less recoil than a 44 Mag and they feel good in hand on my 629.

I'm actually content with the supplied Hogue grips even though I often buy & use grips from Pachmayr.

Probably my favorite revolver. Mine wears a Hogue convesion in rosewood. Love Hogue grips. And yes, it's dirty. It's always dirty as it's usually the first to go in the range bag.

Nice. I love my governor and ive been wanting a defensive 357 for a while.

Dont really want anymore semi autos except for a 45.

.

I've also had my 627 Pro for about two years. I use it mostly for local steel challenge and USPSA type matches with 38 spl. reloads.
The 8 shooter is a real game changer over the 6 shooter.
I prefer old ugly rubber grips on my shootin' guns.
Round butt rubber Hogue's on mine.

( edit: , the S&W 929 I had may have been a bit better competition gun , IMO. But I like the balance of the 627 , and I can run anything from 38 spl. bunny farts , to full blown .357 magnums. )

FYI ,,
If you are going to run moonclips,, .022 moonclips work with Winchester brass. And .025 work with about everything else..

I've tried speed loaders and they are OK for general range use.
But for the local matches, I load up enough moonclips for the match and don't have to mess with ammo between stages.
But it also means you need a mooning & demooning tool / tools before and after the match. Good Luck..

If we're speaking of the 4" bbl SKU #178014, I bought mine blind without having seen one. I/m a VERY hardened revolver guy, and I still can't believe what I saw when I opened the box. All of those faults that other experienced members have seen on recent mfg guns are not present on this one. B/C gap is .004". It took me a total of 8 magnum rounds to establish the DA cadence of the gun. Not a fan of the finger groove grips, but may not bother changing them out as the gun shoots so well. I had previously thought that my 686 SSR Pro was my finest revolver: it may now be in 2nd place with the arrival of this 627. Magnificent gun.

I'm glad your got it in, comiskeybum. You will enjoy it I am sure.

This is what mine looks like after 2 years and a few thousand rounds through it. I changed out the front sight from the ramp to a gold bead patridge, the grips have been changed out to some Ahrends tacticals and the cylinder release has been changed out to the old style release, which is easier to use for me since I am a lefty and work the release with my left forefinger.

A few thousand rounds? Looks brand new! Can I ship you my 627 Pro (and a few others) for cleaning? Very sensible and positive changes: they make the gun look better, and as you say, improve its handling. Must look into Ahrends grips: the OEMs work, but are not my style. Used to be easier, years ago, selecting Pachs from displays in the LGS's, now only online and with less satisfaction, from what I read.

Good job, muddocktor! Happy holiday.

Had mine for years, great gun! FYI - don't try to load your moon clips with Wadcutters. SWC are fine, but getting all eight cases to line up and drop in are a big headache. Will shoot just fine once in, it's the loading of the filled moon clip into the cylinder that's the challenge. Enjoy

I've been using 38 spl. cases & SnS coated 158 gr. RNFP bullets with moonclips. They drop right in and speed reloads are fast & easy.

I don't try to run with the young bucks much anymore,,, and haven't tried the 38 short or long Colt brass. But, like trying to run with the single stack auto guys at the local matches..
Plus it's JUST fun shooting a revolver !! :D

Moonclips, SWC bullets and .357 cases hang up a bit and smooth fast reloads are much harder to do.

Sweet piece, one of my favorites

My constant range companion. Love it! New Hogue grip and a trigger/action job has the trigger pull buttery like my Python.
