Hi folks,

Some may remember my salvage 681 that ended up earning me more hate mail than any other thread, in addition to some hilarious comments ! :D

The gun shoots better every time I get more experience with it, so I wanted to treat it to a Spa Day.

Here are the before pics.

I polished and bead-blasted the cylinder. First trying the 'secret sauce' at 45psi, it didn't cover enough of the wrongs I was attempting to right. 65psi and some straight silica beads produced this.

Thanks for looking. All comments welcome.

Nice, I love the fact of naming a great revolver with such an icon. Great [emoji106]

Personally, I would have left it like most of the comments on the previous post, just clean up the front sight. To each his own....

Pig Pen rises again! Loved that last thread. Personally it doesn't phase me either way in terms of the bead blasting on the cylinder. I do like being able to see the results and the outcome of that treatment to stainless. Since you have the capability to beadblast, I'd almost want to see the whole revolver blasted minus the polished area on the cylinder but you will likely have to get the laser etching done again! I'm just glad you are experimenting with it and having fun.

I like it, I would have tapped as much metal as possible back to where it belongs, Used fine files, backed sandpaper and time to get it smooth , did the bead blast then a light scotch brite rub down before the laser engraving. But, thats me, I am sure it is still a shooter with history that makes YOU happy and that is the most important part. Enjoy Pig Pen

My only question would be how easy is it going to be to clean such a rough surface. Other than that, yeah, I like it.

Fun thread, thanks for sharing.
Hard for me to tell from the after pics but I wondered how this original view cleaned up?

Here's the after. I tried to tap in as much as I could, gently. The channel needed a bit of filing to square up.

I added a dab of polish at the end with toothpick, let it dry, scraped edges clean with razor. It works.

Some people argue with me that I am wrong in my opinion that adjustable sights are not a good option for a carry gun. Can you imagine how adjustable sights would have fared on Pigpen?

With how that top strap looked, I can't imagine there would have been any sights left to look at!!

I'm also a big fan of the S&W gutter or fixed sight. I just tend to shoot them better. No clue why but I do. I also appreciate the smoothness in appearance compared to an adjustable sight.

LONG LIVE THE PIG...Pen.
