Just because he is asking that much doesn't mean he will get it. I paid $400 plus tax for mine ($425 total) and I would do it again today if I could find another one. :) Of course, everything depends on condition. If really, really nice, it could be worth $500.

People are asking those price's because people are paying it for the third gens. What would a new 9 mm compared to a 3913 cost today. The 3913 is a lot gun for the money.
Guns are not made that way today because IMHO no one could afford them , polymer was a cost effective measure to ensure products produced would sell .

Yep. A lot of shops are wising up quickly now to the growth in 3rd Gen demand... and recent prices are reflecting that. :o And the nicer the condition, the much higher premium they are going to ask. :(

I hit a lot of gun shows and a lot of shops. The occasional bargains (or semi-bargains) of the past seem to have all but disappeared. Now you are damn lucky to pay a "fair" price. Now a "fair" price is a bargain and an inflated price is the new standard.

When I look back at some of the nice 3rd Gens I passed up due to "excessive" cost as little as 4 or 5 months ago, I want to cry. :( Seriously, what was I thinking?

If only I could turn back time... :p

what's nuts about it??....it's his gun...if he sells it for $500..good for him....capitalism at it finest

I'll venture to say that if there is a part of the country where a good solid 3913 can be had for less than $500, and other pistol and revolver prices are similarly discounted from "the new norm," I would be interested to know about it.

I'm not talking about LE trade-ins, which as we know can go for crazy low prices when they flood into a market. (Or not!)

But for a privately-owned, well cared-for, and not "shot out" 3913, five bills is a deal, IMHO.

the 3913 in the ad is an earlier model ....doesn't appear to have any visible holster wear....grip appears to be what I call very nice....op is right about no mag mention.....would I give 5 bills for it....you bet....but I got 2...I sold one recently for $550...2 mags...NO box..

One near me supposedly sold for $550 last month. Dealer says it was very clean. I didn't see it and can only report what the dealer told me. :o

Lord knows that $550 (plus sales tax) is out of my price range for a 3913, even a very nice one... so I didn't have to cry too hard or too long over that one. ;)

I had 3 Lady Smiths, two 3914 and 1 3913. I recently sold the best looking one, a 3914 because it looked too good to be one of my shooters. I simply didn't want to be the guy to give it holster wear and the miscellaneous scratches that come from handling. IF it had been in Like New condition with original box, etc, I can see it fetching something over $500 , perhaps well over as a collectors pistol. Considering the new guns that are being produced, I think that any 3d Gens in VG condition or better are worth $400 or more, depending upon rarity.

Any LNIB or NIB 3rd gen should easily be worth $500 and up if you think about it. Those of us that have been lucky to find them in that condition for under $400 are extremely lucky indeed (as I have been a few times).

Look at the prices of comparable, well built, metal framed semi-auto pistols (Beretta 92; SIG P239; Browning Hi-Power; most 1911's from similar manufacturers) - all are $700 and up MSRP.

The closest gun in my opinion to a S&W 3913/4013 is the SIG P239. About $750 and up from reputable dealers. How can one complain about 3rd gen prices in that regard?

You do know that the single stack 4013 is based on the 4513 and not just a .40 version of the 3913 . I was always impressed by the way S&W made their .40's with totally different slides and frames and heaver barrels that gave the .40 case full support .

When most LE departments dumped their 3rd gens at rock bottom prices, those prices became the new normal. Now that 3rd gens are being appreciated as excellent guns, prices are on the way back up. It's just how it works sometimes.

I bought a 3913 for $400 and a 3913 Ladysmith for $450 four years ago, both LNIB with boxes and no papers. They would easily sell for over $500 today.

Absolutely lucked out and picked up my 3913 super cheap at a pawn shop, but paid $450 for my 3953 and $550 for my new old stock in the box 6946.

All of the guns are worth much more than I paid for them too me.

Yes I did but great reminder on here!

My EDC is a 4014.

Really can't understand why they don't make yearly limited runs of some of the classic 3rd gens. And a scandium framed melted 3rd gen? Would sell out quickly at $1000- $1200 I think.

I've got $467, between trade & cash in my 5906. I waited a long time to get 1. Had to have it. Very nice, no beat down Smith. I certainly do not regret it all! Did I mention that it is a great shooter? Bob

Hi Bob ,I did talk with the owner of the pistol and the only thing that comes with the pistol are 2 magazines one of which does not work , the owner told me she got it off line , so if you want 500 dollar pistol its still for sale they live in Delta , Good Luck, IMHO The price is Nuts.
