I took my commercial Plainfield M1 carbine to our local D-Day shoot and put it up against somevery fine military rifles. Springfield's, Garand's, and even a AR-15 (its not really very formal, just has to be a military caliber and open sights). Anyway, having only shot this gun once before, I was really astounded at how well it performed. At 50 yards (which was divided between five offhand and five on the bench), and 100 yards seated on a mat at a reduced size silhouette. The real kicker was the 200 yard gong. You fire five shots at the gong and if you hit it with your first shot, its 5 points, the second shot, 4, and so on down until 1 point for your last shot. Well, no one was more surprised than me when I rang the gong with that little carbine on the second shot. I held the sights about an inch high and an inch to the left. The spotter was ready to call it a miss when you heard the slightest "tink" and saw it wobble. So the carbine took the day, and the plaque which will get my name added to it. I have to bring it back next year to defend the title. Until then I have to find a place on my wall for it. Needless to say, I have no plans to ever get rid of that little carbine.
