I fitted an AimPoint Micro H-1 on my 15-22. I relocated the Sight just forward of the magazine. Did this after reading about optic location in this forum. Took the gun to the range on Friday afternoon and zeroed the red dot at plate shooting distance. Friday night went to a .22 caliber plate shoot. Don't think I missed a plate all night and won my class. The S&W with a Micro AimPoint make an unbelivable combination. Let some friends try out the gun. Same result, put the red dot on the plate, pull the trigger, the plate goes down. S&W will be selling some more rifles. One note, I took great care in loading the magazine. Held the magazine at a top down angle when slipping the rounds in. When finished checked to see the top round was correctly slanted up and the rounds in the mag were nicely staggered. Never have a jam when loading this way.:D

So your optic was as much as the rifle? I would love to drop good $$$ on an optic but have a hard time doing so on a plinker

Haha well nice thing is he can take that optic and put it on any other AR.

Yep, the optic was as much as the rifle. I don't consider the rifle a plinker. It is a tool for one class of club level plate shooting. With the addition of the AimPoint I went from back bencher to serious competitor. At our club we are constantly shooting one another's guns. I did not like some of the lower cost red dots. Both my sons are ex-military, one served in Iraq. He was issued AimPoint optics and spoke very highly of them. I am in my early sixties, so $$$ is not as much a problem as it would be to someone in their twenties. However, I do refuse to waste money and consider the AimPoint a good investment. If I ever sell the gun the AimPoint is coming off and the iron sights are going back on. Also did you know that AimPoint micros (H-1 and T-1) are also frequently used in archery?

Easy to turn a $400 plinker into a $1000 competition rifle with the right parts. Ammunition will become a vital concern for the best accracy.

With the addition of this Aimpoint sight you need a better trigger in the M&P15-22. I dropped a Rock River 2-stage into mine and it works wonderfully. Especially compared to the stock trigger.

Thanks Chuck, I will look into installing a Rock River trigger. For ammo I prefer CCI Mini Mags. What do you use?

I use my M&P15-22 as a trainer (for want of a better term) and shoot Winchester 36gr Super-X hollow points in the 333 bulk package. Test a variety and see what groups best -- or good enough -- in your specific rifle.

I've since pulled the Rock River and put it back in my LWRC M6A1 5.56mm carbine. JP yellow springs and the stock trigger group are back in the M&P15-22.
