Playboy Teaspoon

Picked this spoon up and it felt different. Well made and ergonomic (no pun intended). Thinking this probably isn’t China made flipping it over to see. Oh Wow..... it’s a Playboy spoon.... hmmm. I found some for sale on flea bay. Wonder if they were actually used at the PB mansion or just a gimmick? And.... how did it wind up in my drawer?

It does say ‘Japan’ on it.

No Playboy logo. Playboy would have applied their trademarked logo to something used in their clubs, or licensed logo to a legit manufacturer. Looks like the spoon maker used the non-trademarked name playboy.

I did a few gig at the Cincinnati Playboy Club on Seventh St. in '81 and '82.

I never noticed logos on the flatware.

Then again, I wasn't paying much attention to the flatware.

My great Uncle Rufus, spent every Friday evening in the Cincy Playboy Club. He was part of a weekly card game! His table always had a male waiter. The waiters got good tips from the people that were there for the men's club facilities and back in the 60's, didn't get their butt pinched! I've been told that the Playboy Club had the best food in Cincy!

Rufus said that on the average he won $4000 on Friday nights, but Tuesday and Thursday nights averaged $5000, That was at the old Cincinnati Men's Club. But he quit going there when he had to shoot and kill a guy trying to rob him outside! Every occupation has their own hazards!

ggibson511960 is correct. I have several Playboy glassware items that were obtained from events that I attended at the Holmby Hills mansion or at Playboy sponsored events in Las Vegas. They all bear the bunny logo and TM mark.

All I have are two swizzle sticks, one from Chicago and one from Dallas. Both have the usual Bunny head, like their jewelry.

Alas, I don't recall the silverware.

In Chicago, we were at a college journalism convention and interviewed our Bunny. I know they made good money, but was surprised by how much.

Was only ever in one PB club, in New Orleans, but long ago. I remember nothing about the silverware, but would expect, if genuine, it would have the rabbit.

I have a small, orange, glass ashtray from the NYC Club dating to abut 1962. I've seen the little spoons as well as gthe littlr plastic sticks to stir ones drink .

Back in the 60's there was a club in of all places Provo, Utah that tried to make of go of it and used the name "Playboy Club". Didn't take Hef and boys long to put a stop to those shenanigans. They must have thought they could get away without using the "The". I had been reading Playboy magazine since I was in my early teens and can remember ordering a bunny decal to stick on the windshield of my first car, everything about the Playboy culture was cool back in the 60's. Hef was right up there with Steve McQueen when it came to cool people. Usually if it was associated with the club it had the bunny symbol on it somewhere.

The food was quite good in the clubs and I think my meal was priced about like most drinks. I ordered Chivas Regal in Chicago and had to explain what it was to a female classmate. She barely made the age requirement to drink.

We got in because my teacher's boyfriend was a keyholder and we were his guests.

The Dallas club was smaller and the city is more conservative. My Bunny had posed as a Playmate, but asked that her centerfold not run until after she graduated SMU in a few months. She was afraid she'd be drummed out of her sorority!

My wife and I were there for dinner in 1978. We had gone to a ball game earlier and watched Pete Rose continue his 44 game hitting streak.

During the breaks, I got to hang out with and know some of the Bunnies. They all liked the money and tips but most hated the job for reasons you can easily imagine. (being objectified was #1)

I had to look it up to see, but it seems that there are no more PB clubs presently open. One opened in NYC briefly, but it closed in November 2019. As I earlier mentioned, I visited a PB Club only once, which was in New Orleans, and only because I was the guest of a member. That was nearly 50 years ago. You had to be a member (or guest of one) to get inside, and the membership fee (which included a "Key" to the Club) depended on whether you lived within some specified distance of a PB Club, or beyond that distance.

I remember very little about that Club, aside from my not being very impressed with it. It was not much like what I had imagined. The prices seemed very expensive, and it was too pretentious for my crude tastes. The Mexican "Boys Town" clubs were a lot more fun.

This spoon is very well made. Heavy with that ergonomic bump on the handle. Caught my attention just handling it vs. the cheap stuff of recent times.

Auntie from Colorado is visiting this fall, she's worked for and played with several of Aspen's playboys. Betcha she'll know something, and maybe even who stole it.

I do however still have a book of matches from the club.



I was only 20 years old and altered my temp CA drivers license to say I was 21 so I could buy a membership.

It was a dinner club and Mel Torme was who was on stage most of the times that I went in there.

It was a really nice and friendly place. Everyone in there was probably 40+ years old except for the servers.



Whenever I had friends in from out of town I always took them down to the L.A. Playboy Club.
