I paid a visit to one of my favorite shooting spots out in the desert today. It's at the end of a long dirt road, liberally sprinkled with empty beer cans that I pick up for targets. I toss them out and see how far I can keep them bouncing with whatver pistol I brought along.
Today I had a special purpose in mind. At the gun show this weekend, my table partner told me " There's a couple of M 39 magazines for sale back there", with an indistinct wave behind us. I can always use more M 39 magazines, so I went scooting off. Sure enough the two were marked $15 each.
"How much for both?"
"$25."
I paid and hurried off: they weren't M 39 magazines, but Model 52 magazines, each worth more than I had paid for both. They were very dirty and there was a little rust, but they cleaned up OK. I wanted to see how they worked, so today I ran over 100 rounds through them with nary a bobble. After picking up some very shattered beer cans to recycle, I drove home, grinning the whole way.
