I simply couldn't pass this one up.

Shipped January 9, 1959 to Piedmont Hardware Company, Inc.,
in Danville, Virginia. One of two blue Chiefs in the order.

$124

A friend said, "Probably used in a crime then thrown into a lake."

Hmmm.

The action cycles, and the lockup isn't horrible, but the cylinder
doesn't rotate. Perhaps a bath in a 50/50 mix of acetone and auto
transmission fluid is in order. Then, we'll see if I can get it apart.

Hey, the serial number inside the right stock matches!

That's sad.

I picked one up last year, a few months younger. Came in on trade at work, I "saved" it from a coworker that was going to have it Cerakoted. Only has a few spots of thin bluing. It would have been a shame to kote it.

The only good thing I can say about this poor orphan is at least it wasn't a Baby! I can't think of any means of improving its appearance… it's doomed to remain an ugly duckling and horrible example of gun abuse. :( :(

Well, congratulations. I think. The stocks seem to look like this gun saw a lot of action before it was submerged. Maybe someone lost it in a tragic canoeing accident?

Possibly it has a great story to tell. But I think only the "Wrangler of stray Chiefs" himself could truly love this gun.

It doesn't get any more "stray" than that... Wow!!! If it was a 3.5" 27, I would have been all over that for under $200...

A little copper wool (so that you don't remove the custom textured bluing), some Flitz, and some Ren Wax and an old T-shirt, and I'm pretty sure that one will polish up nicely... :D;)

I look forward to seeing your progress on that little guy.

Funny, I gave $123 + sales tax on my new M36 Chiefs Special back in late '76. Still have that little revolver too, my backup/off-duty weapon for several years.
