My father gave me this gun and the only information he had was that it belonged to his grandfather. The serial number is C77xx and it has five screws. image.jpg[/ATTACH]

Cherish it and give it a lot of TLC.

Made in 1948,wow I could have bought that when I was 5.

I see revolvers like that and all I think about is how much I'd like to hold it in my hands and shoot it.

Thanks for all the help but I have one other question. There is some small surface rust on the barrel what can do to clean it up

Get some copper or brass wool, such as "Chore Boy." Hardware stores and supermarkets carry it. Do not use steel wool. Apply some light oil to the rusted area, penetrating oil is good if you have any. let soak, scrub lightly and repeat. That is about as much as you can do short of refinishing.

Welcome to the forum.

Be very careful as over zealous rubbing, even with copper or brass wool, can remove the blue finish. Many times I will apply a liberal coat of oil and then rub it with the edge of my thumbnail or a T shirt.

The thing to remember is that the blue finish is a form or rusting or oxidation and can come off down to the original steel by rubbing to hard.

Very nice old revolver and the fact that it came down through the family is something that you just can't buy in any store. ;)

PS: Just checked and I own C 2077 and it shipped in 11/1948.
