What is this exactly and is it worth picking up?

Assuming it is what it appears to be it is a round butt, 2", target sight J-frame with pinned barrel. They are pretty rare. It should have an M serial number though. It doesn't. Pre-Model 53 22/32 kit gun maybe? Damned if I know. I am confident our resident J-frame expert will jump in with actual, solid information.

Nice looking old kit gun. Might be nickel that has faded over time. Does it have an N stamped on the flat underside of the barrel?
If price is right for a working gun, I would pick it up for sure

You know, funnily enough I saw someone scoop up a similar looking model at McBride's this week. The cylinder on that model wouldn't spin freely, either. Looked gummed up or damaged. I can't comment on the rarity of the model, but if it's the same gun and the cylinder is any indication it will also need some internal work done, a thorough cleaning at a minimum.

A nickel Model 1953 .22/32 Kit gun with a 4 digit serial. The nickel finish looks original to me, just needs some polish. I'd think again about buying it. It has obvious wear, so make an offer. Even at $600, I don't think you'd go wrong.

Looks to be a hard chrome Improved I-frame kit gun, probably from around 1954. Nice looking handgun

Just me, but I would look for a better specimen if you like to have a keeper. I have those in Blue, Nickel, and SS. Wonderful revolvers but that one doesn't look like Nickel to me, not even faded Nickel. Definitely not a 63.
