I was also told they could be hurst..I got them from a estate sale along with some grips that I knew what they all was..but from all the hand work on this set I thought they was a little bit special

I would vote Hurst as well due to the style of the checkering panel, most of the Fuzzy Farrant grips did not have a semi-circular border like that and coverage extended along the finger groves.

I've owned a number of Farrant grips, and seen some Hurst, and the checkering looks more like Hurst than Farrant.

The "soft" edges and the checkering pattern make me think they're early Guy Hogues.

There are a lot of previous posts here to look at for the "California" stocks- search by maker's name.

I've read where Hurst liked a diamond on the screw side and a plug on opposite side. I'm sure they "all" were not like that. Got any markings or penciled color grease on the back sides?

I think Hogue. The finger groove profile and rounded bottom are unusual, but he was turning out multiple variations then. And then I thought of the diamond profile grip from the back view, so maybe a variation on that.

Well I appreciate all the help but I guess it's between the 2..but everything I have found as far as images goes makes me think they are hurst..I personally have never had anything of hurst or guy hogue..but I hear they are sought after grips if in good condition..

I haven't posted anything her for a while so I thought I would stir up the mud a little. I can attest to the provenance of these three sets of grips as I personally purchased them at the LAPRAC store. I don't know anything about the "Del Rey" connection, but their near twin I purchased and they are stamped Hogue.

Ink stamped "Hogue Custom/PO Box 1001/Cambria CA"

Left Hurst, Center Hogue, Right Hogue

As with the OP's grips, Larry's far right pair does not have the inletted "islands" inside the frame that are often a Hogue trademark, as on the center pair. The OP's finger grooves and the rounded bottom profile are different.

A flaired bottom is a common, if not universal, feature of Hurst.
