Auction site has multiple available.

S&W 59
S&W 915
S&W 910

All pretty similar in size , weight , price.

Mag availability / price important.

Thanks :)

Go buy a new S&W Sigma 9ve it will probably be cheaper the those and you will have a lifetime warrenty.

If price and condition are reasonably close, it's no contest.
915

All will take the same mags (any 59xx series mags).

59 is older, and from what I understand will not be covered by S&W lifetime warranty.

For me, it would be a toss-up between the 915 and 910, with the edge going towards the 915.

I just like the lines of the 915 better - the 910 is a little "blocky" and doesn't quite have as good a "feel" to it. Both are good guns, though.

I'd go with the 915, or a used 5904 off GB. I just picked up a used 5904 for $230 after shipping on GB.

Summit Gun Broker has used 639's for sale. To hold one is to love one. The grip ergonomics are excellent!

915 would be my second choice

I just bought a 59 that was as close to new as they get. It was made in 1981. It is one neat gun. It holds 16 rounds and so far no problems. It shoots everything I put in it.
I bought extra mags at CDNN for $20 each.

915, but any of those are probably fine. Be careful with "cheap"--it conjures defective guns made of inferior metals. I think what you meant to say was "inexpensive, gently used."

Unintentional - I'm a S&W lover ;)

The ones I'm lookin at are under $300

Just want one for a spare travel gun / range toy. :)
.

I don't lift weights, but to me, you would need to if you buy a 639. That is one heavy gun. I put mine up and went back to my 39-2. Accuracy is great and I don't have to balance a brick to have a good shooting score.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the 915 and the 910 are the same gun. I thought the 915 was renamed 910 because of the Clinton Ban magazine limits of 10 rounds (back in the 1990s). The 915 went from 15 rounds to 10, thus the name change.

AFAIK - there are some minor dimensional changes , but 59 mags work in
all 3 versions I posted.
