I have never considered myself as a cat person. I have always had dogs and still have 3. When my wife and myself moved to Arizona in 1998 we bought an Oriental cat and named her Cassie. Right away she captured my heart. She would sit on my lap and "talk" to me. She looks at you as if she can understand every word.
After a few years I had to have back surgery. Cassie would sit with me all day until I learned to walk again. I have always had cats but never one that seemed to care about humans.
We moved to Georgia in 2005 and that was the start of problems for Cassie. She had severe sinus problems and has difficulty breathing. We have had her to the Vets many times but no cure. In the last year she has lost a lot of weight.
Today we took her to the vet again. She is not doing well. The sparkle in her eyes is gone. They are giving her a lot of fluids and medicine but it does not look good. They asked about putting her down. I can't. I know it might be the humane thing to do but she is my friend. I don't have a lot of money but I will spend it all to have one more day with her.
This is where you come in. I need your prayers to help Cassie. Thanks.

I will pray that she improves.

If she is suffering do what is right and end her suffering.
If this sound heartless; trust your vet on this.

I had to make the choice for Mr. Fred some years ago.
I could not see him continue to suffer just to give me a few more days of comfort.
He crossed the bridge with dignity.

Prayers for Cassie. I wish that when people have no other recourse with illness and pain they would do for them like they do for pets. Is it better to be in pain and suffering or to be free of the pain. I have the same problem with my four legged family but some times you have to make a hard decision that will hurt you but let our family free of suffering.

I had to do this to my baby almost 10 years ago and still feel bad about it, but I know it was the best thing to do for her. I still think about the great times we had together and still feel sorry for myself about what I had to do, but she stopped suffering after that day and lives in my memories. RIP my little girl.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Cassie and you have my prayers, my thoughts and my hopes that the vets can restore her to good health. God BLess....

I am blessed with a "talker" also - he stands with his back paws on the arm of my chair, puts both front paws on my chest, looks me straight in the eye and does his very best to make his dull human understand him. Although we make different noises, we manage to comprehend each other pretty well. I understand your feelings - give her a chance to make it, but if she fails to improve....well, she is your friend after all, and she is counting on you to do the right thing.

I'm with you.

I'm close to losing one of my two feline pals. Dexter is 12, and is suffering from heart failure. He's not the same kitty he's been his whole life, but we have a little bit of time left with him. I will be devastated.

Much like your story, my two helped carry me through some very difficult times in 2006-2007. They do understand us, and when we need them.

The most difficult of choices is the one we have to make for all of our loved, furry "kids". You will know when it's time. Cassie will let you know.

I'm a veterinarian and I deal with this type of situation quite often. I'm so sorry to hear of Cassie's troubles tlay. The advice I generally give to people, is that they will know when the quality of life of their pet has diminished to a point where euthanasia is the best option. The key tlay is YOU will know, and I'm sure you will always do the right thing by Cassie. You cannot put a price on those few extra precious days you have with her, but if/when she is truly suffering, then she would probably want you to let her go. It is one of the most heart wrenching things we as humans have to do for our beloved pets, and never easy, but ultimately it may be your final act of kindness for Cassie. Good luck and prayers to both of you my friend.

Prayer from Texas for Cassie, hope she recovers but if not you have a solemn responsibility to do best for her.

I'm always impressed by people that care deeply for animals. Listen to Cassie she will tell you when its time to go. Bless you sir. Prayers are sent.

Our thoughts are with you. Prayers sent for you both.

Cassie sounds like the classic Nurse Cat, the one who stays with sick or injured individuals until they are better. Almost all cats have a little nurse in them, but the ones in which it is the dominant characteristic are special animals.

Nurse cats helped my wife through some serious illnesses, and my daughter has a couple of them right now that help her with some far from trivial problems. I'm sorry to hear that Cassie is in distress. I'm sending her some prayers and special thoughts right now. May she improve.

Good thoughts for you as well. Take care.

Hi, I'm a new member to the forum and long time cat person and animal lover. I saw your post and thought I would extend my prayers for you and Cassie. We had cats in our home for 39 years since my wife and I got married, seven cats in that time and every one had a different personality.

The only one we have at this time is Rocky (a biter) he can play rough and draw blood on occasion but we love him.

With every cat we had, it was hard to say goodbye. I feel for you and your long time friend. If things should get worse, don't wait until the last minute, it's not good for you or Cassie.

Hang in there,
Jerry

There comes a time when love, prayers and memories will not relieve the suffering and pain an animal endures.

You know what has to be done, prayers for Cassie and for you.

Prayers sent.

I get it. I'd never been a Cat guy either, till we got "Buddy" and that's just what he is, my Buddy.

We just received a call from the vet. Cassie has a problem with her pancreas. She might have cancer. I am not sure what to do. Thanks to all for your prayers. I will try to post a picture of her but I have been having trouble with my laptop. If I can't is there someone I can e-mail her picture to so everyone can see what a beauty she is? Thanks.
