Reliability and accuracy??? Any opinions are welcomed. I am going to buy one of these 40 cals. A friend had four Shield 40's and none would shoot to point of impact. Any body have both of these and can make some recommendations. Thanks a bunch!

The 9C is just slightly larger and a tad heavier than the Shield. It is also a little wider. Then why would anyone get the 9C? Because it carries 12 rounds, versus 8 rounds for the Shield. The 9C also has the interchangeable palmswells.

I personally carry the Shield 40. As long as the gun has sufficient firepower (9mm or 40), I want the most comfortable carry gun. That is why I choose the Shield.

H&K is great, overpriced by 45% and not one of the OP's provided options, but great nonetheless.

I don't do .40 cals, but I have a Shield 9mm and a M&P9C 9mm. I shot perfect scores with them at last years qualification and both shoot to POA for me. A lot of time people will anticipate the snap of the .40 and POA changes and they just do not realize it. Anyway both my Shield and 9C have over 2,500 rounds through them with no malfunctions, parts breakages or other issues. I find them pretty much even when it comes to shootability. Where they differ for me is when it comes to "carryability". The Shield is so slim it just rides like a dream. A flat lightweight dream. But the M&P9C is far from hard to conceal. So as always my recommendation is to go with the one that feels the best in your hand.

Sounds like your friend had 4 Shields he couldn't shoot.

Try to handle both at you local gun store, or even better, check to see if any ranges within a reasonable driving distance have rentals. Perhaps they have one or both available.

Get both.:D. I carry the shield a lot more because it's easier to conceal and a lot more comfortable. Both of them have been accurate and reliable.

I just bought a Shield 40 this weekend after much research and debate. I have a Sig 9mm that was just too bulky to carry. The Shield is trim, fits well IWB and packs a punch inside the "Red Zone". Although it only has a capacity for 8 (7+1) the single stack extra mag fits fine in a pocket. Any more than 8 rounds and your probably in a war zone, but I fully understand the piece of mind extra rounds bring.

I haven't had a Shield 40 or a M&P 40c, but I have had both in 9mm...so while I can't address how they fire, I can tell you how they feel in my hand.

I have small hands...and on M&Ps, I always use the small back strap. The larger M&Ps (M&P 45 FS and Compact, M&P 40 FS, and M&P 9 FS) have always felt very comfortable in my hand...with the small back strap. The trigger reach was good for me too. The 9c with the small back strap felt OK front to back, and the trigger reach was good, but even with the extended base plate on the magazine the grip felt a little too short for me.

The Shield is the best feeling small pistol I have ever owned...with the 8 round magazine. The grip is too short with the 7 round magazine with the flat base plate. I love this gun for carry, and in fact it can work for home defense too. A lot of people depend on 5 or 6 shot revolvers, so 8 shots are certainly enough.

I have both. Plus a full size 40
both shoot great. I qualified with all three guns and my scores increased as the gun got smaller.

I'd ask your self a simple question. What do you want to do with this gun?
I imagine you don't have the funds for both.

I started with a full size. Duty weapon..
bought 40c as my b.u.g. the reason? Same platform as my full size. The full size mags fit. Making it so I don't need to carry different magazines.

Off duty carry of the 40c was a problem as I'd have to buy new pants to carry inside the waist band. I'm on a budget and this made a great excuse to buy another gun. After I bought new pants first..

So I bought a shield. I wear pants that have big enough pockets that I can pocket carry. I have a Tagua/remora clip less holster that I stretched a little to fit the shield. I carry that in one pocket and a spare magazine in another.

The question you need to ask is, How do I plan to use this gun?
Conceal carry can be done with both. One is just more comfortable than the other. Your mileage may vary.

One carries more ammo than the other which some find important.

Can't go wrong either way..
