The AHR 5969 is the serial number. The other stamp is an assembly number.
The serial number dates your gun to approx. July 1985.

You have a Model 686 no-dash (or pre-dash). The 686 is an L-frame revolver.
The dash numbers happen when there is a change in design, etc. I believe a current model 686 is a 686-6.
The m-stamp was due to a modification where they replaced the firing pin and bushing.

Lately 686's seem to be selling from any where between $500 - $700.

That is fantastic info thank you very much!

You're welcome.
You picked a great revolver for your first one.

The S&W L-frames are solid guns capable of firing magnum loads all day with no problems.
My personal favorite is my Model 586. The 586 is the same gun as the 686, except the 586 is either blued or nickel plated, and the 686 is stainless.

P.S. Welcome to the Forum.

I paid 570 for my dash 1 back in January I feel it was a fair price. The gun was rated in good to excellent condition.
