Pocket carry N-frame?

Legend has it that he pocket carried an 8-3/8" N-Frame, among his many other accomplishments:

Or, as Mae West said:
"Is that an N-Frame in your pocket, or are you glad to see me?"

Biker Dave: There are real tactical advantages to pocket carry in some circumstances. I work in dress clothes, and the ability appear completely unarmed is important, as is the need to be able to remove my jacket (I have no tolerance for heat, and am uncomfortable to miserable in most places because my comfort range is far below that of other people) without a holster or other gear showing. Since I have to get my suits tailored anyway to fit (my coat sizes are far bigger than my trousers, so there is a lot of work done to make the trousers fit), I get some additional work to bolster the pockets of the coats to carry a magazine and my flashlight (Surefire Fury, of course).

There have been occasions under which the ability to stand casually with a hand on my pistol without being obvious has been very valuable. Pocket carry is not a perfect solution for all purposes, but it does fill an important niche.

I pocket carry the X frame-those of you who can't , you just aren't man enough-and are **** suckers

I don't know if it is John's face added to your comments, or your comments with his face there ,but I get a good belly laugh on lots of your post. Sometimes, even ("as if" ) when you are being serious. Thanks

I see you are in law enforcement. I'm sure you might have some special circumstances I am not aware of.By all means ,do whatever you have to do to keep yourself safe. I was speaking about the general public. It's just my own opinion anyhow. Have you ever tried to carry a N frame in your pocket? KEEP SAFE BRO!

Love me some zombie threads!

I also love seeing those N frame snubs with fixed sights. The 625s are especially cool.

I have pocket carried both a S&W 1917 cut to just under 3 1/2" and a cut down Colt New Service with a 2 1/2' barrel, but only when wearing bib overalls. It is truly surprising how much stuff can go into a pair of bibs. The S&W shows a little of the butt, but is easily covered with a winter vest. My wife, however, absolutely hates bibs. Says I look like a hick. I don't care since I grew up with a bunch of hicks. Strange attitude from a girl who grew up in a farm town with a population of about 800.

I saw this thread and laughed at the idea....however, when I got home after work I dropped a 2 3/4" N-frame in the front pocket of the kaki's I was wearing and was amazed that it fit in the pocket and that the print wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. I was really surprised. It was a scandium frame...would think a steel frame would be a little tougher to carry.

I will take your word for it. But I would have bet money that only a kangaroo could carry an N frame concealed. On the other hand, I pocket carry all the time (not with an N frame) and no one has ever asked me if I am carrying. Maybe different definitions of "concealed".
The bulge in the pocket is hardly noticeable, in fact most are surprised when they want to know if I am carrying.

I can see where someone could carry an N frame concealed -- depending on dress and weather.

But why would you want to?

Unless you live in bear country and need a 44 mag, I can't see toting the extra weight and dealing with the large size.

There are plenty of J and K frames that are good enough CCWs IMO.

I won't argue with Clint Smith. whom I respect, or anyone else who can find a way to pocket carry an N frame. But I wear normal jeans, I'm a smallish guy, and a holstered J-frame is as big as I can comfortably stuff into the front pocket of my jeans and not have anyone notice.

Of course, I'll just have to try my 3" L frame 686+, just for grins, but I doubt it will work. If it does, I'll report back.

I do love some of those snubbies shown above, especially the one with the Eagle grips that match my 642 J-frame's. That's a beauty!!!

Not so strange. My wife would say your wife has evolved. I love bibs. Been trying to wear them for 48 years of married life. Every time I come home with a set, 2 days later, they've disappeared.....

Interesting thread.

There is (was?) a forum member that stated he carried a 22-4 4" 45acp in his front pants pocket! Ok. That's a 41-42 oz gun loaded. What kind of pants? Even cargo pants (those pockets are great for stuff) would dramatically be dragged down with an extra 42 oz. Of course the member may be 7' 2" and 350lbs.

For me, I'm short for my weight. I don't think it's so much a case of n frame as it is weight of the loaded gun. Of course Bermuda shorts and a beach shirt might not work. I think the 327 and the 625-10 and 625-11 pictured earlier make good choices. My 625-10 weighs 26/27 oz loaded. Being a fixed sight also helps.

I seem to remember in the movie "Hunter" (Steve McQueen's last movie) he carried a 1911 in a jacket that had a holster sewn into the inside pocket or some such rig.

For standard clothing (not bib overs etc) a j frame would likely work well in a pocket. N frames might need a little more planning.
