have had a desaintis iwb holster for years. never used it. it rides good in the front pocket using the belt clip, but is uncomfortable. on the belt it isn't like an OWB holster. any info /input on carry pocket/ iwb. have seen guys pull their glocks out of side cargo pants w/ out a holster. have a buddy that pocket carries a 442 and or old 4" barrel 32, pocket. he related to me I know you don't care for pocket carry w/ out a holster. just related that he never get it out in a 21 ft. condition. and I don't think it is safe, my 2 cts.

Pocket carry without a holster is asking for injury. Don't do it.

Pocket carry can be helpful with a holster if the pockets are large enough and configured for easy draw. Best idea is put the gun unloaded in your pocket, crouch down, and then see how fast you can draw it. Most people can't even get the gun out as the pocket tightens up when crouched (which would be a common scenario in a self defense situation. Crouched behind a counter, etc).

I carry a mid-sized Glock 23 appendix IWB in the summer and Glock 17 on the winter. I am 5"10 160 and do not print with a medium shirt with jeans and I find it so comfortable I have to check sometimes because I think I forgot my Glock at home.

Carrying IWB is not uncomfortable if you do it right which means buying jeans 1-2" waist size larger, getting a good belt, and getting a holster with adjustable cant so you can arrange it to fit you perfectly

Pocket carrying without a holster, especially a glock is stupid... UNLESS it isn't loaded. Don't do it.

I don't like pocket carry at all. Not for any safety reasons, it's just not comfortable. I don't keep anything bulky in the front pockets.

Get a proper IWB holster with a proper belt. Holsters are something you'd have to play with. I know it's a waste of money but unfortunately it is what it is. You can always try to sell the ones that didn't work out. I prefer kydex or kydex/leather with the belt clips being spread out far apart from each other on opposite ends.

When on the farm, I carry a Ruger Custom LCP in my back pocket in an Uncle Mike's soft holster. Doesn't matter what position I am in, unless laying on my back perhaps, I can get it out easily. The holster comes off quickly and easily with my other hand, and I can fire quickly if needed. I have no plans to update to the newer LCP, this one is just fine.

Yeah, don't pocket carry without a holster

My constant companion is my 442 (Centennial Airweight). For years I went through an uncle Mike's pocket holster every two years. Then I saw the light and got two from:

Mika's Pocket Holsters

One for round bottom pockets, the other square. These are leather and the best I've found. These will last me the rest of my life.

Then you might as well carry a 16oz. hammer on your tool belt. No permit required for that, yet.

I envy folks who can pocket carry. I haven't been able to figure it out without feeling like I have a gun in my pocket.

I've been Front Pocket carrying, using either a Galco Pocket Protector leather holster, or a Remora (similar to nemesis/etc) for years.

The trick to Front Pocket carry is the length/angle of the Front Pocket Slash and the 'Fit' of the pants/jeans. If you can't make a fist and insert/withdraw your hand easily, there's no way someone would be able to present a handgun.

For me, 'Relaxed Fit' Wrangler jeans & slacks all work fine with my Shield and Galco PocketPro holster. Relaxed Fit offers more room in the thighs, to minimize printing. Yes... Someone might be able to tell I have SOMETHING in my pocket, but they can't see that it's a pistol.
Of course, if Relaxed Fit pants are a snug fit, one would need to bump up another notch to 'Loose Fit' pants. ;)

More often, people who know I carry have mistakenly thought the bulge from my Cell Phone was my pistol.

When I buy pants or shorts I try them on then take my pocket gun and try it for fit. I sit down then walk out of dressing room and let the wife have a look. If they feel good to me and look good to her, they come home with us.

Risky Carry

If your body type allows wallet, cell phone, keys and pocket change to slip out of your pockets when seated then you have no business carrying a gun in a pocket.

Also, denim may hold up for a time but the type of pockets incorporated into dress pants and sports slacks will quickly wear out with the added hazard of losing the gun.

A number of years ago carrying a High Power in a newly acquired thumb break holster I came home and scared myself when I went to put things away and saw the safety was OFF. Initially I chalked it up to carelessness on my part. Turned out the thumb break strap would disengage the safety any time you sat down. "Cocked and locked" works only if the safety stays locked!

A co worker with a 1911 in a small of the back holster found his ambidextrous oversize safety would disengage when he wore a certain coat.

Another found the magazine release on in his Kel-tec P3AT would periodically disengage the magazine when using belt clip to carry it clipped inside his front pocket. Maybe the heel type mag catch on a pocket pistol isn't such a bad idea?

For some years now it has become my habit to try a new rig with an unloaded gun until I am sure that the usual activity will keep things secure and safe. Sometimes equipment fails in ways that are not always foreseen. With accursed holster I just got lucky I did not wind up unintentionally blasting 9mm hole in my hide or who know what.

Surely i am not the only one?

Yep, those are the two that I carry my Chiefs Special in.

An old friend, many years ago, sold me his .22 pocket gun for just $50. He knew I liked guns and wanted me to have it. That gun almost crippled his right leg. I then knew why he walked like one leg was 3" shorter....and very cautiously slow. Use a holster.

I have pocket carried a j-frame of some sort much of the time for the last 40-plus years. I hip-pocket carried a Model-36 with a bobbed hammer for many years. I carried a flat checkbook in my right hip pocket, and would just drop the little revolver behind the checkbook so it would break the outline of the gun. More recently, I have carried a 3" Model 37 in a front pocket in a homemade holster made of cardboard and duct tape. That holster has been more satisfactory than several different pocket holsters I have purchased.

I wouldn't carry a Glop in a pocket, either. Nor would I carry one in a belt holster.;)

I carry a 640 in the side pocket of my Carhartt Double Front jeans in a sticky holster. It also fits well in my Docker slacks. I'm a big guy (5'10", 275), so it doesn't print much in either, and a fist fits in and out of both.

I've pocket carried a J-frame (all steel, not an Airweight) for seventeen years. Used the Uncle Mike's #3 holster for years until folks here persuaded me to try the DeSantis Nemesis a couple of years ago.

I don't find carrying that way to be difficult or uncomfortable--got used to it quite quickly and easily. But I understand a lot of people disagree.
