I'm finishing up my first tuckable IWB for my 3.5" Citadel CS, and as an alternative for situations where I might need to disarm frequently, I'm thinking about a pocket holster.

Has anybody carried any kind of 3.5" M1911 in a pocket holster? If so, was that a satisfactory method?

I have a 3.25 Para-Carry that is a bit smaller than yours. My normal carry for this is a IWB, but the few times I wanted no holster left behind, I just used my right hip jeans pocket. I don't think it would ride as well in a slit pocket. Ivan

ETA; Dad always carried Colt 1908 32 acp in his right hip dress pants pocket sans holster. It always found his hand when he needed it. A little thinner but about the same in other dementions as yours. Ivan

I don't think you can carry a 1911 of any size in a pocket holster other than in a cargo pocket. Everybody will wonder why you are carrying a brick in your pants.

Given that DeSantis and Remora make pocket holsters for Officer's size M1911s, it's POSSIBLE, otherwise they wouldn't spend money to make something that nobody can use.

What I'm after is whether anybody's actually used one, and whether it's an effective means of carry.

While I never carry anything else in the pocket when my J frame (in self-made holster) is in it, I would never carry a gun where the trigger wasn't covered by a holster of some sort.

While Ohio has removed the requirement for a pocket holster when pocket carrying in a vehicle, I still think it's a good idea, even if it shouldn't be mandatory.

It does take big pockets (preferably in pleated-front pants) and a good belt, but I do sometimes carry my RIA Officer's-size 1911 in a simple Uncle Mike's nylon pocket holster bought at Walmart. Works just fine, and has never drawn undo attention from anyone.

I was looking for somebody with actual experience and you have it.

"Printing" has no legal significance here in Ohio, so my only concern is not having the butt sticking out of my pocket, and that merely because I don't like talking to stupid people who're afraid of guns.

Thanks.

I sometimes carry a Colt Defender in my front pant pocket....

Guess it all depends on the trouser pockets and the pant fit.

My dad sometimes carried a gov't model in his pant pocket, but he was tall and worn loose fittin britches.

Pocket holsters that cling to the firearm and not the inside of the pocket would be a hindrance to me,
what with having to draw and wipe the holster off with my free hand....

I might want to be doing something else with my free hand at that time, like directing a companion or
a child in my care to safety, etc...

The way I make my pocket holsters, even if one did come out with the gun, you only need push it off with your thumb. In practice, that never happens because I push down with my thumb on the "sweat guard" (actually just a rectangular projection to make it look like a wallet in your pocket).

,

Printing is not a legal problem, it's a problem when people who are scared of things that go bang can tell by looking at you that you're armed. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is that a gun in your pocket or.....

Never mind..............

I have been carrying a full size 1911 (Springfield R.O. w/target sights) in my pocket (not the cargo pocket, the pocket you stick your hands in) for maybe 6 weeks. With a "Sticky" brand holster, works pretty well. No droop or discomfort or any issues you would expect carrying a "brick" in your pocket. None! With a little practice the draw is smooth and natural.

Pants are Duluth Trading Post "Fire Hose Flex" jeans. The pockets are huge, and they are very durable and comfortable.

The holster I use has a sticky, rubber-like band sewn around the middle that holds to the pocket material nicely and stays put when I draw.

I carry a full size 1911 in Cond. 1

I wouldn't carry a 1911 of any size in my pocket in condition 1
The only way to carry a 1911 is condition 1
So I wouldn't pocket carry a 1911 in my pocket.
Even a little bitty small one.

Safety-wise, I don't see a problem as long as it's in a proper holster.

I wouldn't carry ANYTHING in my pocket without a holster, be it an M1911, a Glock, or a Rast-Gasser.
