Pocket holster for 642?

I've tried several pocket holsters, including a couple of pretty costly ones. I still go back to the Uncle Mike's #3.

Greetings, All,

I have been trying to find the "perfect" pocket holster for my 642. I first tried an El Cheapo from, I think, Action-Tec. Too loose, and didn't keep the pistol in the same location all the time. Next, I tried a Bianchi pocket holster, which I liked MUCH better. However, it seemed to allow the butt on my 642 to lean backwards a bit too much, canting in such a way as to print on my jeans. Worked best in pants like Dockers, or dress pants, and less good in my blue jeans. Now, I've trying a Desantis Nemesis, which I like even better. It doesn't hold the gun quite a tightly as the Bianchi, but the cant is less pronounced, and it seems to print less in my jeans pocket. However, it still does print, some, and I wonder if there is anything else out there that is easy to use, comfortable, and doesn't print, at all? Any ideas? I keep thinking, due to my size (5 8" 165lbs) that I should carry a smaller pistol in my pocket. But, I love the 642, and really hate to carry anything smaller as my BUG. Thanks for any suggestions you might be able to offer. I would really appreciate hearing from guys about my size, as I know the bigger Gentlemen will have less problems in keeping a 642 hidden away. Thanks, and God Bless!

Doc

I'm about your size, just add 5 pounds and another inch in height. I have 5 holsters (and 4 sets of grips) for my 642, and the Mika pocket holster suits me better than anything else.

I have the Nemesis. Works pretty well except it is almost 1" deeper than needed for the barrel of my 642. The gun won't seat deep enough in some of my pockets causing the grip to show in the opening of my pocket. NOT good.

I am looking for something more compact. Maybe the Uncle Mikes?

Greetings, Friends,

Merry Christmas to all!! Well, now that I've had a chance to use the Nemesis holster for a bit, I have to say, it prints too much, just like the Bianchi holster!! Dag-nabbit!! In the time I was trying both holsters out, I "was made" several times, and that's never happened before. No problems, of course, but the entire point of concealed carry, is to be discrete and "concealed"! :( So, I have three options left, both of which I will try. First, I will order a proper Mika holster, and see how that works for me. If that fails, I can stop wearing blue jeans, and only wear Dockers type pants, with slash front pockets as both holsters conceal very well in that type of pants. Last, I can retire my wonderful 642 from pocket carry, and go to something else, which I'd prefer not to do. But, if I cannot carry it with discretion, than I will not carry it, at all, sad to say, unless it became my primary firearm. So, there goes the saga, Folks, and I'll let you all know how this turns out, after I try a Mika holster for my 642. Might have to go with the Dockers, even with the Mika holster, if I want to keep the 642 in pocket carry mode. Oh, well...... Many thanks for all the outstanding suggestions, Friends! Much appreciated, even if pocket carry turns out just not to work for me, personally. Take care, and God Bless!

I use a Wild Bill's pocket holster for my 642. I don't have much of a printing problem with jeans due to the shape and weight of the holster and how I use it. If you want to "hide in plain sight" you need to further break up the outline with something obviously not a gun. I have an oblong pill container that I put outside the holster at its base. It prints conspicuously and draws any gazes to it. You can use keys, Skoal cans, or anything else that can be located below the holster opening and doesn't interfere with drawing the gun.

I still prefer to carry in Dockers or cargo shorts, primarily for ease of drawing the gun. Jeans do tend to inhibit the draw.

I agree with buck on the cargo shorts, and the Dockers cargo pants. They have deep pockets no others have, for conceal carry. I have found no jeans or Levi's with deep pockets, and they have tight openings, making draw and concealment a problem.(LCP LCR 642)

I tried the Mika.....too loose. It wouldn't hold my 642 snug. Tried Uncle Mikes.....too small & also too loose. Tried the Nemesis....found it just right. It held the 642 snug. Any pocket rig will print if you are not wearing loose fitting pants & with deep enough pockets.

I use the Active Pro-Gear pocket holster for my 642. At $25. it's a bargain. It's durable, holds the gun upright, allows for a rapid draw and easy re-holster, ALWAYS stays in the pocket, and doesn't print. What more could you ask for at any price ? ? BTW, I would stay away from Kydex, unless you don't care about the finish of your carry weapon. It has a tendency to scratch guns. The finish of the 642 is not very durable and will be prone to damage by a Kydex holster. The owner of Aholster (Kydex) states on his website that if you don't wan't your gun scratched, don't carry it. Well, I bought my 642 to carry AND it's NOT getting scratched up in my holster.......

I've used Uncle Mike's over the years -- no more for their pocket holsters. They always come out on the draw for me. I like their IWB holsters, however.

I am currently using a DeSantis Nemesis. It's pretty good.

Take a look at Pocket Concealment Systems, Inc. (pcholsters.com). I have several of their holsters for both semi auto and revolvers. I use one for my 638; they have many options to chose from. Not cheap, but the quality is outstanding. I have one of their holsters that I have used for years and is still performing well and still looks good.

Another vote for the Mika. I have a Nemesis, but it won't stay in the pocket when I practice drawing (it did when I first purchased it). I also tried the Superfly from Desantis, but is too bulky for me. The Mika is a great holster and stays put for me. Great product!

I have tried various brands for J-Frame pocket carry and found Andrews Leather concealed pocket model to be the best for my needs. It securely holds Centennials, Bodyguards, 37s, 60s, etc. without printing, is extremely comfortable and exceptionally crafted. Wonderful folks to deal with as well.

I like Mika pocket holsters. You do have to use them for about 30 days or so to get them fitted to the gun and flattened out. After that, they're perfect. I use them in jeans and slash pockets.

Good Morning, Gentlemen,

Many thanks for the continued contributions to this question of mine. I had almost completely given up on using my 642 for jeans pocket carry, until I read today's offerings in this regard. I will go for a Mika, and see how things work out for me. I've been reduced to using my Kel-Tec P3AT, in place of the 642, and whilst that little popper is a neat gun, I'd feel better with the 642 in it's proper place! Thanks, again, Guys, and God Bless!

I carry a 640 in a Kramer pocket holster all day, every day. It has a piece of material over the front of the holster to minimize printing. It works. I wear Docker type pants at work and it fits in there fine and you can draw easily. I am not sure their is any good way to pocket carry in the front pocket of jeans. At least any jeans I have ever worn.
Same thing here, carry a 342PD in a Kramer pocket holster every day except with jeans. No print, effective draw, protects the gun and lasts.

When you order the Round cut Mika do you have to tell him the size/dimensions you want or just tell him it is for a 642? Thanks

Just tell him it's for a j frame. BTW mine conceals just fine in jeans.

Hang with the Mika

Got one about 3 months ago for my 442, but gave up on it after a week. Felt too bulky. Went back to it and tried it again and it started to flatten out and form around the gun nicely. So, that's what I pocket carry it in now and it works great in jeans too.

Got a Mika's round cut on the way(just ordered.) How long did it take for all of you to get yours in the mail from the time you ordered? I have heard anywhere from days to months.
Also, the Nemesis says it is for 642's with 2.25" barrel. Will this N38 Desantis Nemesis work on the 1.815" barrel 642's?

I just recieved my Mika holster for my 642 in the middle of February. I can't describe how much I LIKE this holster. The 642 comes out of the holster every time!! It does not matter if I am wearing jeans or suit pants.

I am now waiting on my 642 to get back from getting a trigger job, radiusing the trigger, and internal lock disabled. Once that is done I will be set.:)
